1960s Angel Sleeve Silk Chiffon w lame Velvet Details Dress
This is a wonderful 1960s maxi dress made from the most amazing fabric and it is hard not to love such a strong statement piece. It is certainly one of the most dramatic dresses I have seen and yet it still has a soft and sexy element to it because of the fabric and those sleeves. It is made from a black silk chiffon that has fused dots over its entire surface. Each dot is made form a black metallic lame velvet. This gives the dress a stunning shimmer as it catches the light. Besides the fabric, the standout element of the dress is of course those sleeves - each is a long and dramatic panel of fabric that flows right to the hem of the dress (and maybe just a bit past it). They are each a full 42.5" in length and trail down the sides. The way they move and flow when you move while wearing the dress is just incredible. The dress is cut fairly straight and sleek through the body and this simple cut is the perfect balance to the sleeves. The fabric has a touch of sheerness which allows you to go as brave or as opaque underneath as you wish. The contrast between the fabric and cut, mixed with the volume of the sleeves is incredible. It has no label but did come out of the estate of a very wealthy woman whose closets were filled with Dior and other top designers from this time period so I would not be surprised to learn that this was a piece from someone important. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes at the back neck with hook and eye above a keyhole. It slips on to wear. Each sleeve is slit open from about the elbow down.
