Cruise 2016 Yves Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane Couture Black Dress w Mesh & Crystal Front

I Have A Question: Cruise 2016 Yves Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane Couture Black Dress w Mesh & Crystal Front

    • This is a very rare and unusual piece of YSL because it has the added information on the tags of that it is a piece of Couture.
    • At this time Hedi Slimane was the creative director and he had re-opened the Couture division at the YSL label. The couture line was not for the general public but was reserved for a select group of friends and clients, making it even more exclusive than traditional couture.
    • A couture collection was presented for Fall 2016 in Paris but it was not officially a part of the Couture schedule.
    • All of that sums up to make this dress one of the pieces that he most likely made as a custom-made piece for a client. Because YSL had not officially joined the Chambre Syndicale de la Mode Parisienne it would officially be considered to be demi-couture.
    • This is an extremely rare piece from his time at the label made even more special because it has all its original tags in place.
    • The dress is made from a fine black wool that has a touch of a texture to it.
    • It is sharply tailored and touches on the famous YSL tuxedo variations that Yves' did season to season. The shoulders are shaped with structure and the sleeves are long. Each ends with five hand covered buttons to close the end of the sleeves.
    • It skims over the bust, waist and hips and then falls to the floor widening out as it nears the hem.
    • The skirt has a very high slit at one side so that you get a flash of leg when you walk.
    • At the front there is a panel that has a mesh net inset that has little handset black beads in a mix of a jet black beads and a deep grey glass prong set rhinestones. When this is on you see that bit of skin showing through and the detailing lets it glint in the light.
    • Between that mesh covered front cut out and that extremely high slit at the side, it has a very sexy feel once on despite its covered and sculpted feel, making it perfectly representative of Hedi's best work.
    • It very well could be the only one in existence.
    • The dress is fully lined in a handset black silk and closes at the back with a hidden set zipper. Each sleeve buttons to close. Ribbon edged seams and hand finishing throughout. Some of the long seam Work appears to have been done by hand, which is allowed in modern Couture.
    • There is no size tag so please go by the measurements below.
    • Excellent condition and appears to have never been worn.

Sleeves: 24" and are 11" around the upper arm
    Shoulders: 15.5"

Spring 1977 Yves Saint Laurent 'Spanish Collection' Off-Shoulder Black Top & Skirt Set

I Have A Question: Spring 1977 Yves Saint Laurent 'Spanish Collection' Off-Shoulder Black Top & Skirt Set

    • This is the twin of the runway set created for the Spring 1977 collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent.
    • In the book on Yves Saint Laurent's work "Catwalk" the note for the collection states that "for evening Yves Saint Laurent designed taffeta skirts puffed out by full petticoats paired with delicate blouses." American Vogue wrote "Saint Laurent, the totally romantic view of woman and clothes" while French Vogue raved about the multicultural inspiration of the collection saying "you can no longer go out in the evening without coming across a taffeta flounce". The most prominent references were to Spain.
    • Its twin was also used for the ad campaign that year.
    • Both pieces are made out of a feather light black gauze that has a touch of transparency to it which adds to the airiness and light feeling of the set.
    • The neck line of the top is set wide across and with an elastic finish so that you can wear it off of the shoulder for a bare expanse of skin to show. A wide 9" ruffle follows the entire neckline and gives the prettiest flounce all the way around you. Detailing the edge of the ruffle is a black lace. And the upper edge just below the elastic is finished with a black braid and little silk covered cord dangling beads.
    • Under that the top skims down to the hem and is cut in a box shape to the ham. To get a more defined feeling through the middle you just tuck it in to the skirt. On the runway and in the ad campaign, it was shown belted with two different type of belts. I love that it shows that by changing up the look of the belt that changes up the look of the set.
    • The skirt has an elastic waist so is very easy to fit. It falls outward to the hem in two tiers and widens out as it goes.
    • It is very full by the hem and I love how the bottom tier is finished with the same lace on the top. Where the two tears are set together there is another panel of lace that has more of that same black cord and the beads running through it centre. That volume combined with the lightness of the fabric gives you incredible movement when you move.
    • This is an absolutely stunning example of his work during this time period and I love that it is so well documented.
    • Both pieces are unlined and weigh very little. The top slips over the head to wear with elastic through the neckline and the skirt has elastic at the waist. They are both easy to fit.
    • The skirt is tagged a YSL 38 and the top a 36
    • Excellent condition

    Top
Bust: 16-18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist-bottom hem: 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Total Length: 21" from top of bodice to hem

    Skirt
Waist: 12-17" flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have A Question: Spring 2002 / Fall 1984 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture Final Collection Black Silk Chiffon Dress

    • The twin of this dress was a part of the Spring 2002 final Haute Couture collection by Yves Saint Laurent.
    • "I have chosen today to say goodbye to the craft that I have loved so much. The next show to which I invite you, on Tuesday, 22nd January at 6 PM, at the centre of George's Pompano, will predominantly be a retrospective of my work… Some designs from the currencies will also be shown." This was how Yves the announced his intention to retire and leave the world of Haute Couture. That final show was over an hour long and was presented to a room of 1500 hand picked guests.
    • A total of 371 garments were shown that day with pieces from the beginning of his career to the final collection.
    • Recreations of some of his most famous dresses were made available and each has the special label that you see in this dress with both the original date of the labels inception and the 2002 date.
    • This is one is a recreation of the famous Fall 1984 dress. We have included references of both the original and the twin of this one in the show.
    • It is an extremely rare and wonderful piece of YSL history.
    • It would have been entirely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • The neckline sits wide across and the shoulders are soft. The sleeves narrow to their ends and all of the upper bodice is done in a fine black light in weight wool that has a slight texture.
    • The waist is defined by two wide panels. They attached and are gathered in along each side and this gives the shape you see. The top panel is a purple and the bottom a deep pink.
    • The dress skims over the hips and then falls to the floor flaring outward as it reaches the hem. The back is cut slightly longer than the front and you can see the extra fabric built in there to create a sweeping feel behind you.
    • Every line is meticulously thought out and the technique to create the lines of this dress showcase his decades as one of the premier modern Couturiers in the world.
    • The dress is fully lined in a hand set black silk and closes with a side set zipper. An inner waist hooks to close and the dress buttons above a small keyhole at the back. Each end of the sleeve closes with zipper. All of the inner seams are done by hand and the entire dress is made to modern Couture standards. Its proper numbered Couture tag is present.
    • There is no size tag present so please go buy the measurements listed below.
    • Excellent condition and appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Sleeves: 21" and are 16" around the upper arm
    Shoulders: 15"
Bust: to 19.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 15" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 22" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 12" from top of shoulder to top of the 10" band at the waist
Total length: 56" from top of shoulder to front hem and the back extends another 5.5" past that with just under 2" turned under the hem.

Amazing 1950s Elizabeth Arden Old Hollywood Metallic Gold Playsuit Jumpsuit

I Have A Question: Amazing 1950s Elizabeth Arden Old Hollywood Metallic Gold Playsuit Jumpsuit

    • This is a fantastically rare and special metallic gold jumpsuit from the 1950s.
    • This is the kind of thing you will only ever find in vintage.
    • It is well made and potentially a piece that had a second designer label in it at some point. Shops like the Elizabeth Arden couture salon in NYC carried their own pieces as well as pieces from other designers.
    • These metallic playsuit pieces are so rare and hard to find and this one is in just exceptional condition.
    • This great little playsuit is made out of a very early metallic fabric that feels like it has actual metal in the threads. It has an almost structured feel to the fabric itself.
    • The gold is a bright metallic tone and a touch brighter than how you what you see here. It really catches the light wonderfully and gives the suit its touch of high glamour. You could wear this by the pool, though I wouldn't recommend going into the water with it. A modern girl could even wear this on its own as an ultra mini feeling piece. It really has endless possibilities.
    • Matching straps curve up and over each shoulder. You could also tuck them in and wear this as a strapless piece I think.
    • It skims down and over the body with just the suggestion of shape through the waist. You could easily add a belt to cinch in the waist and add more shape if you wished. The shorts part of are cut wide like a loose boy short.
    • Inside it is lined in a stretch jersey and its shape is much like a swimsuit. The inner legs are elastic. It is very clean and fresh and appears to have been worn very little.
    • There is no size tag present. The fabric has a touch of stretch. I have put the comfortable range of measurements below fr both the inner piece and outer. I see a couple tiny missed threads in the weave here and there. Super minor but mentioned for accuracy.
    • Excellent condition

Bust: 16-18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Inner waist: 14-18" flat across from side seam to side seam and the outer waist is 16-18" flat across
Inner hips: 17-21" flat across from side seam to side seam and the outer hips are 17.5-20" flat across

Fabulous c.1984 Thierry Mugler Strapless Metallic Gold Lurex Mini Dress w Buckle Detail

I Have A Question: Fabulous c.1984 Thierry Mugler Strapless Metallic Gold Lurex Mini Dress w Buckle Detail

    • We believe the dress is from the 1984 collection and Kim Kardashian wore its twin in 2008.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Thierry Mugler.
    • The fabric that it is made out of is a light in weight metallic gold fabric that drapes beautifully and has a beautiful deep gold tone to it.
    • The dress is cut with Mugler's masterful eye and attention to detail.
    • The bodice is strapless. One side is curved and is gathered in underneath the other side. There is a peaked panel that folds down to create a little flap on the other side.
    • A panel of the metallic gold fabric extends out from the side with the peaked bodice and this buckles into a gold metal buckle belt coming around from the back. This creates a heavy gathering at that side that sweeps up and adds shape through the waist area.
    • The buckle is metal and is signed at the back. These would have been specifically made for Mugler.
    • The skirt falls under that with a bit of a curving hem at the front so that it is all brought upwards as you can see in the photos. It is meant to feel hourglass in shape.
    • This is a spectacular and very rare example of his work.
    • I love how the entire dress shimmers in the light because of the gold metallic fabric.
    • The dress is lined through the bodice with a more structured fabric that creates an inner built-in corset that is boned and cupped. The skirt is fully lined in a lighter feeling silk. It closes at the back with a zipper and then buckles around the waist with the attached buckle belt. The actual interior of the Terry Mugler tag has been cut out.
    • Tagged vintage Mugler 42
    • Excellent condition with a bit of wear above the grommets and on the belt buckle.

Bust: 17-18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14" flat across from side seam to side seam.
Hips: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 10" from top of bodice to waist
Total length: 33" from top of bodice to the hem

Gorgeous Resort 2020 Khaite Look 21 Burgundy Net Full Skirted Dress & Underskirt

I Have A Question: Gorgeous Resort 2020 Khaite Look 21 Burgundy Net Full Skirted Dress & Underskirt

    • The twin of this dress was Look 21 for the Resort 2020 presentation.
    • The dress was made under the creative direction of founder Catherine Holstein.
    • Holstein established Khaite in 2016 as the label’s designer, founder and creative director.
    • “Khaite” is pronounced like “Kate” and was inspired by Holstein’s nickname, Cate. In Greek, Khaite means “flowing hair” which is a nod to the femininity of the label.
    • This look is actually two pieces. There is the top overdress and then it came with a separate under-skirt that adds a ton of extra volume and makes it opaque enough to wear.
    • Both pieces are made out of a deep burgundy netting that has a touch of a pink undertone to it. The colour is even better in person.
    • The dress is a touch big on my dress form so on the right size it is going to sit even better.
    • I love how she layered and draped the tulle on the one side of the bodice. That sweeping panel that goes up and over the shoulder and top of the arm is so very pretty. Then by using a only single layer of the netting over the other shoulder you get a play on transparency that is gorgeous.
    • The waist is seamed with a raw edge finish. The skirt cascades down to the floor from there and there are many yards of netting used to make up the skirt.
    • An inner separate skirt goes under that. It has a grosgrain ribbon band around the waist that hooks into place and then there is about 2" of a single layer of the tulle under that. The lower part of the skirt is gathered into the bottom of that layer. The lower part is made up of two layers and the gathering is heavier than what is done on the exterior skirt. This makes the bottom skirt very full and also makes it more opaque.
    • I love that having that separate underskirt actually gives you a whole extra piece to wear on its own because you could wear it as a skirt in its own right.
    • Both pieces are unlined. The dress slips on to wear and hooks to close at the back of the neck and zips at the side. The inner skirt hooks to close at the waist.
    • Tagged a modern 10
    • Excellent condition and was never worn.

Fabulous 1960s Unlabeled Deep Burgundy Pink Fully Sequined Backless Dress

I Have A Question: Fabulous 1960s Unlabeled Deep Burgundy Pink Fully Sequined Backless Dress

    • This is a great dress from the 1960s that has no label. It is one of those magical things that you will only ever find in vintage.
    • It has that wonderful old Hollywood star feel to it.
    • The dress is completely covered in sequins that are a deep burgundy that has a touch of deep fuchsia pink to them. They are set in an overlapping grid and cover every square inch of the dress.
    • The neckline is set wide across and this dips into a completely open V at the back that leaves a bare expanse of skin showing.
    • The sleeves are long and the front skims over you to the waist. There is a wide band of a burgundy fabric that you can wrap and tie several ways around you. You can have the ends at the front or the back for a completely different look. I showed both ways here.
    • The dress skims over the hips and then falls in a long lean column all the way to the floor. There is a slit up the back to allow you to walk and for a little bit of leg to show as you walk away.
    • The dress is fully lined in a burgundy rayon and closes with a low set back zipper. The ties are attached on either side of the zipper at the back and you tie them how you wish.
    • The dress has no size tag and there is a bit of give in the fabric. I have put the comfortable range below.
    • I see a bit of grubbiness and some discoloration on the inner lining under the arms but it does not go through and a bit on the ties.
    • Overall great condition.

Sleeves: 24" and are 9-10" around the upper arm
    Shoulders: 14"
Bust: 16-17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 12-13" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 15" from top of shoulder to waist
Total length: 63" from top of shoulder to hem with 2" turned under the hem
Slit: 21" from back hem up

    • Jules-Francois headed the Lanvin ateliers from 1964-1984. He has been noted as one of fashion’s 'great colorists with his colorful patterns making his 1970s Lanvin designs hugely desirable and influential.' His time at the Lanvin label is one of my personal favourites for the house.
    • The Lanvin label is numbered and the dress has been made to demi-couture standards.
    • This dress is made from a fine blue silk tulle that has a floral pattern embroidered over its surface in the same blue. The lining is done with a deep purple silk and this gives it this very unusual colour that lies somewhere between a deep blue and a deep purple.
    • Onto the top silk net there is an exquisite floral design done with a metallic gold thread. That same gold thread also circles around the lower skirt in two horizontal panels done in a open chain link design. More of the floral netting separates those panels.
    • The result is even better on person as the gold feel more prominent. I love how the gold catches the light from every angle.
    • The bodice skims over you and the sleeves are long. Each sleeve has a bit of puff above the elastic cuff.
    • The waist is cut more generously and you could add a ribbon or a belt to cinch it in.
    • The skirt skims over the hips to the floor and widens out as it nears the hem. The added panels of gold on the skirt help to give the skirt support and help hold its shape.
    • Fully lined in a purple silk chiffon through the top and a purple silk through the skirt. It closes with a back hand set zipper and there is elastic in each cuff. Hand finishes and hand finished inner seams.
    • The label is numbered.
    • There is no size tag present and the bias cut of the lining and the net give it a little give so I have put the comfortable range of measurements where it will give a bit.
    • Excellent condition

Fabulous Fall 1985 Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Runway B&W Check Suit

I Have A Question: Fabulous Fall 1985 Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Runway B&W Check Suit

    • This is original Haute Couture who's twin walk the runway for Fall 1985.
    • The suit was made under the creative direction of Emanuel Ungaro.
    • This would have been completely made by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • This is a stunning two piece set done in a houndstooth black-and-white check on a fine wool feeling fabric.
    • The jacket is a classic cut of his from this time period. It features wider set strong shoulders and is meant to feel more oversized through the upper bodies. The waist is cinched in with the double row of faceted dome buttons that sit at the front and the dramatic peplum under that. This cut is what gives you that fantastic exaggerated hourglass feel that the best of his work has.
    • The front wraps over itself and buttons in at the waist. The collar is very wide and notched and covers almost the entire upper bodice. Under that the hips flared dramatically out all the way around you.
    • The shape of the bottom peplum is achieved by having the panels of the jacket shaped and cut to widen out just under the waist. This gives you those brilliant little flares but without adding extra seams. It is the kind of detail you look for in a couture piece.
    • The sleeves are full and they come down to a more narrow cuff detailed with four of the same facetted jet coloured buttons that are slightly smaller than the ones at the front.
    • The skirt has a band at the waist and then it is cut in a slim pencil shape to just pass the knee, depending on your height. Pockets sit on each hip and the pockets add a little bit of shape around the upper hip.
    • Both pieces are fully lined in a handset black silk. The jacket buttons to close. The button on the sleeves are decorative. The skirt closes at the side with a zipper and hooks at the waist. The shoulders have padding. All of the hand work is to Haute Couture standards throughout.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below
    • There are a couple nicks in the skirt at the front as seen in the photo added here. Otherwise excellent condition

    Jacket
Sleeves: 22" and are full and open through the upper arm.
    Exaggerated shoulders: 16.5"

Total length: 20" from neck to hem

    I Have a Question

Exquisite & Rare Fall 1999 John Galliano Mohair Angora Printed Jacket Skirt Suit

I Have A Question: Exquisite & Rare Fall 1999 John Galliano Mohair Angora Printed Jacket Skirt Suit

    • This is a rare two piece jacket and skirt set from the Fall 1999 collection.
    • It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano.
    • We have included several runway shots that we found that show various pieces made of the same fabrication and with similar silhouettes.
    • Both pieces are ultra soft to touch. The angora/mohair and wool mix that both pieces are made of would have been specially created for the collection in order to get the pattern to lay so precisely. The fabric would have had to have been pre-planned out prior to making the final design.
    • The jacket is phenomenal. It has soft shoulders and is meant to feel at touch more oversized through the upper bodice. The waist is cinched in with a single oversized hand carved button that sits at the front. From there  then it curves over the hips under that. This cut is what gives you that fantastic exaggerated hourglass feel that the suit has.
    • The shawl collar is very wide and covers almost the upper bodice. It is finished with a bolder print and feels like a statement piece in itself. The body of the jacket has an angled black-and-white chevron print and I love how he has placed this to emphasize the shape even more.
    • The sleeves are extra long and they are meant to bunch up slightly on the arm. They are finished with a wide band of the same design that details the collar.
    • The skirt has a simple black piping at the waist and then it is cut in a long slim pencil shape. The upper portion of the skirt is done in that chevron pattern and then the lower part of the skirt picks up that amazing design that was used on the collar and ends of each sleeve.
    • The jacket is lined in a black silk and buttons at the front to close as described above. The skirt is unlined and closes at the back with a zipper and hooks at the waist.
    • Both pieces are tagged an early Galliano large.
    • It appears to have never been worn.
    • Excellent condition and so so very rare.

    Jacket
Sleeves: 26.5" and are 14" around the upper arm
    Dropped shoulders: 17.5"

Gorgeous Fall 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Runway Look 22 Houndstooth Suit

I Have A Question: Gorgeous Fall 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Runway Look 22 Houndstooth Suit

    • The twin of this gorgeous suit walked the Fall 2008 runway as Look 22
    • It was made under the creative direction of John Galliano
    • The show celebrated the 1960s with the opening music Simon & Garfunkel's 'Mrs. Robinson'. The models were styled with a nod to the 60s but in a highly exaggerated way.
    • Galliano said of the show "I am always looking for heroines who make me dream"
    • The suit is made from an oversized and exaggerated black and white check in a fine wool which keeps it light in weight but has enough structure to allow it to hold its intended shape perfectly.
    • The collar is edged in a black patent leather strip, and this continues down the front and all the way around the hem. It also details the ends of each sleeve, the bottom of the skirt, the tops of the pockets and is used to create a little half bow that sits just off centre of the neck.
    • The shoulders are rounded and sloped with a soft feel. The sleeves fall just above the wrist and they are very wide. Each is a full 16" around by the cuff.
    • The body of the jacket is cut boxy and wide for an easy fit. Two little slit pockets sit on each side and both still have their original tacking in place.
    • The skirt has a sleek and simple cut. It flares out as it near the hem and will sit at about the knee depending on your height.
    • Both pieces are lined in a black silk. The jacket snaps to closed under the patent panel with hidden set oversized silk covered snaps. The skirt closes with a hidden set side zipper
    • Both pieces are tagged at FR38, GB10, IT42, US6.
    • Excellent condition and appears unworn.

    Jacket
Sleeves: approx 19" and are 16" around the upper arm

2010s Valentino Ivory Silk Crepe One Shoulder Dress w Draped Back & Rhinestone Buckle

I Have A Question: 2010s Valentino Ivory Silk Crepe One Shoulder Dress w Draped Back & Rhinestone Buckle

    • The dress was made under the creative direction of the original Mr. Valentino
    • It is made of a pretty ivory silk crepe.
    • It falls from one shoulder and is very sleek feeling from the front.
    • At the back the shoulder extends into a thinner strap that runs on an angle across you. The rest of your upper back is left bare and open.
    • There is a rhinestone encrusted buckle at the base of that strap and then that extends into a long panel that goes to the floor for a beautiful detail at the back.
    • The back is longer than the front with a slightly trained feel so it's sweeps behind you as you move.
    • The dress is fully lined in an ivory silk and it closes with an offset hidden set zipper.
    • Overall excellent collection with some minor feel of wear and perhaps the tiniest bit of colour change around the edges here and there but very minor, two tiny faint spots. Please see the photos after the label shot.

Bust: 16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 19.5" flat across from side seam to side seam

Runway Spring 2013 Emilio Pucci by Peter Dundas Look 41 White Silk Halter Dress w Pockets

I Have A Question: Runway Spring 2013 Emilio Pucci by Peter Dundas Look 41 White Silk Halter Dress w Pockets

    • This is the second time that I have had this dress in the shop and I still love it as much now as I did then.
    • The twin of this dress walked the runway for Look 41 for the Spring 2013 collection.
    • Vogue said of the Collection; "When Peter Dundas inherited this historic Florentine house—famous since the 1960s for its kaleidoscopic prints—he made reworked archival patterns a major part of his story line. Last season and this one, though, he's started inching away from them. These days, the label is just as well known for Dundas' confident, louche brand of glamour as it once was for its founder's graphic swirls and geometries."
    • It was one of three white dresses that close the show before the final red look.
    • The dress is made out of a light silk that is light in weight but just heavy enough to keep the structure. It is very close to a true white.
    • The front neckline is done in a halter style with the upper part above the bust line finished an a white netting that has a secondary abstract print work through it. This allows you to see the skin underneath. The front is gathered over the breasts almost like a bandeau and seamed in the centre.
    • Under that is an open cut out for a bit more skin to show.
    • The dress curves in to follow the waist under that and and skims over the hips.
    • The skirt falls to the floor and widens out quite a bit as it nears the hem. This gives the dress incredible movement when you walk and you get a sense of that in the runway video.
    • I love the loose slightly draped pockets that sit on each hip.
    • The back is mostly open with a criss cross of straps and an open cut out between the waist and the back strap.
    • Decorative frog knots sit at the low waist for added detail.
    • The dress is fully lined through the bodice and the skirt is unlined. It closes at the side with a hidden set zipper. Light boning and padding through the bodice.
    • Because the upper body is lined and padded when it is off the body it feels like the fabric is a touch darker as it is completely opaque. Once on its fine and the lining is needed
    • Tagged a modern Pucci IT42, FR38, US8, UK10.
    • Excellent condition with some faint marks here and there around the hem.

Bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam

Most Wanted 1978 Halston Off White Ivory One Shoulder Draped Jersey Maxi Dress

I Have A Question: Most Wanted 1978 Halston Off White Ivory One Shoulder Draped Jersey Maxi Dress

    • Documented to the 1978 collection
    • The dress was made under the creative direction of Roy Halston.
    • In 2016 a red version was worn by Kate Moss at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
    • Martha Hunt wore the twin of this dress from us to Cannes in 2019 and she landed on several Best Dressed lists.
    • These were issued on a variety of colours and this one is a wonderful and quite rare ivory version.
    • The dress is suspended by one hook at the shoulder.
    • The inner part of the dress has a high slit cut into the side that travels up the side of the leg opposite to the draped side.
    • Attached to that inner sheath lies a draped panel of jersey that is suspended from the shoulder. It falls from that shoulder down and over the front and the back of the dress.
    • The dress slips on to wear and has a hook at the top of the shoulder to hold it in place.
    • These will fit a variety of sizes since they are not cut to be super fitted and the jersey does have some stretch.
    • There is no size tag present and I have put the comfortable range of measurements when laying flat below.
    • I see a very slight mark on the back near the edge otherwise excellent condition.

Bust: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam

Iconic 1972 Ossie Clark Couture Black Moss Crepe Open Back Wrapped Dress w Bishop Sleeves

I Have A Question: Iconic 1972 Ossie Clark Couture Black Moss Crepe Open Back Wrapped Dress w Bishop Sleeves

    • This is one of his most iconic and collectible designs.
    • The dress made under the creative direction of Ossie Clark
    • Ossie named all of his couture dress and this one is known as the Cuddly.
    • To wear the dress you simply slip it on and wrap it at the waist where it ties into place.
    • The dress is made out of his signature moss crepe.
    • The front is cut in a low plunge because of the wrap and the back has a large triangle cut out that leaves your full back bare and exposed.
    • It is very sexy and instantly recognizable as being an Ossie Clark piece.
    • The sleeves are phenomenal. Each is a huge bishop cut sleeves that are puffed and full above the cuffs.
    • The skirt skims over the hips and then widens out to be quite full with yards of fabric in its construction.
    • The wrap leaves a long overlapped slit at the front. When you stand still it falls and closes but when you move or sit you get a flash of leg and depending on how tight you tie out around the waist you can show the entire leg.
    • The dress is unlined and made out of a black moss crepe.
    • One tie is a little shorter then the other but does not appear to have been altered. The wrap style should allow it to fit a variety of sizes.
    • Tagged a vintage UK10
    • I see some very minor bit of lighter areas on the moss crepe here and there. This is a natural patina on this type of fabric as in ages and is only mentioned for accuracy.
    • Excellent condition

I Have A Question: Fabulous 1970s Ossie Clark Metallic Silver & Black Lurex Knit Lame Plunge Dress

    • This is a late 1960s, early 1970s very recognizable and collectible design.
    • The dress was made under the creative direction of Ossie Clark.
    • it is made out of a semi-transparent black and silver metallic knit lurex fabric that is ultra light in weight so it is very easy and comfortable to wear.
    • A silver thread that run through the net from head to toe and this gives it a touch of glitter in the light from every angle.
    • It has a plunge neckline with a gathered detailing at the base of the neckline.
    • Coming out from that are attached ties that you can use to cinch in the waist as much as you need.
    • Those sleeves are phenomenal and each is a very full balloon cut.

Museum Held 1986 Thierry Mugler Gold Feather Light Lame Dress w Gathered Sides

I Have A Question: Museum Held 1986 Thierry Mugler Gold Feather Light Lame Dress w Gathered Sides

    • This dress has been dated by the one that is its twin and was part of the 2014 exhibit 'Chicago Styled'.
    • It was made under the creative direction of Thierry Mugler.
    • The dress is made out of a light in weight metallic gold fabric that drapes beautifully and is perhaps a touch paler gold than how it photoed here.
    • The dress is cut with Mugler's masterful eye and attention to detail.
    • It drapes up and over the shoulders with wide panels of the gold. On one side the fabric is heavily gathered and hooks in at the waist underneath. On the other side the dress comes out from under that and is not as gathered so that it falls more down and over the top of the shoulder.
    • The side with the wider shoulder is set into a panel that runs down the opposite side of the dress.
    • This panel is finished with gold studs and this is where the dress closes. The panel runs all the way down the side to where it splits for the hem. There is even a weight added inside the base of the panel to hold the dress perfectly in place.
    • The body of the dress is all gathered into that side panel. It wraps around you and then is gathered into the panel at the back. This creates incredible draping down the body and around you.
    • The vertical side panel draws the dress up a few inches above the hem and this then creates a bit of an angled curve along the lower hem of the dress that beautifully picks up the angles on the bodice.
    • This is a spectacular and very rare example of his work.
    • The dress snaps to close where you see the studs at the side and underneath that there is a hidden set zipper. A grosgrain ribbon wraps around the waist and is attached to the part of the bodice that tucks underneath the crossing over at the front to hook to close inside the dress. It is very cleverly put together.
    • I love how the entire dress shimmers in the light because of the gold metallic fabric.
    • The dress is partially lined through the bodice and fully lined through the skirt. There are little padding shells set through the inner shoulders but it feels like their inner padding has been removed at some point. It would be easy to add padding back in if you preferred a stronger shoulder.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the listed measurements below.
    • Excellent condition

Bust: approx 14-19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Inner hooked stay at waist: 12.5" flat across from side seam to side seam. Without the stay the waist is 13.75" flat across
Hips: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 14.5" from top of shoulder to inner waist

    • The evening portion of the collection focused on short dresses that had a corseted waist and bust with wrapping techniques that gave the feel of a sarong. The dress is a wonderful example of that feel he was after and it is fantastic.
    • We found a teeny slice of it or a very similar piece on the runway and even though the photo shows the model on an angle, it does give you an idea of how wonderful this will be on the body.
    • This would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.
    • The fabric of this dress is fantastic. It is made out of a black silk organza that has been gathered so it has a slight 3D puffed effect. This creates an incredible texture over the dress.
    • The fabric is light in weight and despite the elaborate construction of the dress is not at all heavy once it is on.
    • Inside the dress has a full proper corset with boning through the bodice to give you some support and built in cups. A wide grosgrain ribbon hooks in place around the inner waist to hold everything perfectly in place.
    • All of the seams are finished by hand and it is really is a nod back to the early couture days in terms of it's construction.
    • The bodice is cut with a curving sweetheart neckline and it is meant to hug the body. It is elaborately gathered and fitted around the bust with all of the gathered folds coming in to the seams that run over the bodice. This is all done to emphasize your curves and it make the dress very flattering once on.
    • It nips in at the waist and there is a large and elaborate bow that sets at the base of an angle seem coming from the bust. I love how this is set to curve around the hip to the back. It instantly adds to the hourglass field the dress has.
    • From under the bow, the skirt curves down and over with to wrap around you and then come back in and under that panel to give it that wrapped sarong feel.
    • Fully lined in a black silk and closes with a side set zipper. The interior of the bodice is boned and cupped for support. The inner corset closes with its own zipper and a wide band on the interior waist hooks to close. There is a tiny bit of lightening to some of the edges on the fabric. This is a natural aging of this type of fabric and I don't consider it to be a flaw, but it is mentioned for accuracy. It otherwise appears to have never been worn, or worn very little.
    • Excellent condition

Gorgeous Spring 1990 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Red Silk Crepe Wrap Dress

I Have A Question: Gorgeous Spring 1990 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Red Silk Crepe Wrap Dress

    • Its twin walked the runway for Spring 1990 and the reference photos shows how amazing it is once on an actual body.
    • Made under the creative direction of Yves Saint Laurent
    • The dress has a very Old Hollywood / 1940s feel that I love.
    • It is made out of a red silk crepe that drapes beautifully once on.
    • The sleeves are fantastic. Each is a big balloon sleeves that puffs out dramatically over the cuffs.
    • The front crosses over itself in a plunge. It wraps and snaps to close around the waist and there is a hidden snap that lets you close the V off more or you can leave that open for a full plunge. I love the versatility of this.
    • The skirt is gathered in under the waist seam and then it falls to the floor and gently widens out as it near the hem. He was just a master at manipulating fabric to fall perfectly over the body.
    • Fully lined in a red silk and closes with a series of snaps around the waist. More hidden snaps run down the seam at the front and there is a snap that closes the plunge more if you wish.
    • Slight elastic in the cuffs and elastic around the back of the waist that make the dress very easy to fit.
    • Tagged a vintage YSL 42
    • I see one darkened mark near the hem at the front and two little nicks out of the fabric in that same area. These are extremely minor and just mentioned for accuracy.
    • Excellent condition.

Sleeves: 25.5" and are very full through the upper arm
    Shoulders: 15"
Bust: 17-22" flat across from side seam to side seam
Elastic waist: 13-17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 21" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: approx 17" from top of shoulder to waist and meant to drape over a bit
Total length: 62" from top of shoulder to hem

Fall 1987 Arnold Scaasi Black Strapess Velvet & Green Full Skirt Silk Dress

I Have A Question: Fall 1987 Arnold Scaasi Black Strapess Velvet & Green Full Skirt Silk Dress

    • Arnold Scassi launched  his boutique line in 1984 and it was high end ready-to-wear and very expensive.
    • Arnold Scaasi was born Arnold Isaacs in Montreal and the name Scassi is simply his own surname in reverse. He studied in Montreal and in Paris, apprenticed at the house of Paquin and then worked with the legendary Charles James. In 1964 he opened own couture salon.
    • The sleeved version of this dress walk the runway for the Fall 1987 collection. It's very rare to find documentation from this time period and I love having that say that you can see how amazing it is on. I think this strapless one is even better.
    • You can easily see the influence of Arnold having worked for Charles James in this piece. The lines are dramatic and yet elegant.
    • The dress is strapless and the top portion of the dress is made from an inky black velvet. It is dramatically shaped at the front with wired peaks and a V plunge at the front.
    • It nips in at the waist and then angles down from one side low on the hip on the other. On the side that sits higher up, there is a large bow detail that gives the effect of holding all the gathers of the skirt in place.
    • The skirt is set under that and the long angling seam on the opposite hip adds visual length to the dress as it extends down and into a deep point. The skirt is quite full and the shape and volume that you see is held by the inner construction which is quite amazing.
    • Layers of tulle netting set underneath the outermost layer of silk. The green of the skirt is a true brilliant emerald. This unexpected shock of colour is fantastic.
    • Fully lined in a green silky rayon. The bodice is lightly boned and it closes with a hidden set side zipper. Built in stiff tulle under skirts and the skirt is interlined in a green organza.
    • There is no size tag present so please go by the measurements listed below.
    • Excellent condition

Bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13.4" flat across from side seam to side seam

Fall 1985 Hubery de Givenchy Haute Couture Runway Plunge Black Silk Velvet Leopard Dress

I Have A Question: Fall 1985 Hubery de Givenchy Haute Couture Runway Plunge Black Silk Velvet Leopard Dress

    • From the Fall 1985 Givenchy Haute Couture collection and we have included some photos showing the extensive use of this particular fabric for pieces shown on the runway.
    • Under the creative direction of Hubert de Givenchy
    • Completely made by hand in the Paris atelier to Haute Couture standards.
    • This gorgeous dress is made out of a black silk velvet with a leopard print done in a different finish of velvet within the fabric. This pattern gives the velvet an extra depth and richness, and also catches the light as you move. It is stunning.
    • It drapes absolutely beautifully over the body. It is really an outstanding fabric. The bodice is set into a V that crosses over itself where it is set into the waist. The bodice drapes more loosely over you at the front.
    • The waist is seamed and cut slightly on the more generous side. I have added a ribbon and if you wanted more shape, you could have it cinched and even more with a belt or it also works perfectly well without.
    • The sleeves narrow down to a hand set zippered cuff.
    • The skirt falls to the floor in a pretty sweep of fabric that is at the front. This lets the front hem curve up slightly.
    • It is a gorgeous dress and a wonderful piece of his fashion history.
    • Fully lined in a black silk. There's a inner built-in half skirt. It closes with an inner side set zipper and the outside snapped into place with a series of hidden set, snapped around the waist. And inner waist state hooks to close. Each cuff has a hidden set zipper. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.
    • There is no size tag present so please check the listed measurements below
    • Excellent condition

Fall 2015 Junya Watanabe Commes des Garcons Runway Look 6 Black Oragami Jacket

I Have A Question: Fall 2015 Junya Watanabe Commes des Garcons Runway Look 6 Black Oragami Jacket

    • The twin of this jacket walked the runway for Look 6 for the Fall 2015 collection.
    • From the Junya Watanabe for Commes des Garcons line.
    • For the show Junya focused on the honeycomb and he said that he wanted to explore "dimensionality through clothing" the point where mathematics and nature meet.
    • This particular jacket explores the use of the hexagon and triangle and the jacket is meticulously pieced together. You also see the nod to the honeycomb in the pattern of the oversized waffle weave print that adds texture over the entire jacket.
    • The sleeves are shaped to follow the shape of the arm and the fabric is all gathered into a complex design under the base of the shoulder. You see this repeated at the front of the bodice and the interesting shape it creates around the neckline. I have taken a photo of the jacket hanging on a hanger as well as the dress form so you can get a better idea of this.
    • Around the edge of the hip are little insets triangles that create a exaggerated peplum. You can see how beautifully the shape this creates once it is on the body.
    • The jacket is fully lined in the second layer of the same fabric as the exterior and buttons to close down the front.
    • It comes with its original packet that has extra fabric and the jacket appears to have never been worn.

Amazing Spring 2002 John Galliano Black Bias Cut Logo Dress w Sweeping Back

I Have A Question: Amazing Spring 2002 John Galliano Black Bias Cut Logo Dress w Sweeping Back

    • This is a signature bias cut dress from the Spring 2002 collection by John Galliano
    • Made under the creative direction of John Galliano
    • There are no closures on the dress. It is completely cut bias and you just slip it over the head to wear and it just falls into place skimming over the body from head to toe.
    • The cut of the dress has a strong nod to Couture pieces of the 1930s and 1940s decades that he continuously referenced in his collections.
    • The fabric has a silk like finish and is a deep black. Various Galliano logos have been woven directly into the fabric in a different finish thread so as you move these catch the light. The effect is fantastic once it is on the body.
    • The fabric obviously would have been custom designed by Galliano and made specifically for this dress
    • It scoops down into a V at the front and the back with a band highlighting the entire neckline. It skims over the waist and hips from there and flares out at the lower hem.
    • The back is cut longer than the front so you get this fantastic sweeping feel behind you. It is in its original uncut length.
    • A high slit runs up one side for a flash of leg when you walk.
    • Unlined and slips on to wear with no closures.
    • The measurements have a lot of range because of the bias cut and no closure so I have given the comfortable range for all below when laying out flat. There is probably a little extra room beyond my measurements, but I do not like to over pull when measuring.
    • Tagged a FR42, GB14, US8
    • Excellent condition and it appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Bust: 16–19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14–17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 18–21 " flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have A Question: Fall 2012 Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli & Maria Grazia Chiuri Black Silk Dress w Front Plunge

    • This dress is from the Fall 2012 Valentino collection
    • At this time both Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were acting Creative Directors.
    • It has the feel of Looks 25 & 48 from the runway with that deep plunge at the front that is really fantastic.
    • The Vogue review for this collection stated in part; "For Fall, the designers wove an enchanting, globe-trotting story through the sweetly feminine silhouettes they've established as their own over the last few ready-to-wear and couture seasons".
    • It is made in one of Valentino's signature silk crepes that gives it its sleek sculpted feel.
    • The dress is very sexy and shows off some skin but still feels very elegant and refined. The fabric has just a touch of a bias cut to it through the body so its very comfortable to wear.
    • Wider straps curve up and over your shoulders and all the edges of the bodice are set in a soft curving scalloped pattern.
    • The front plunges to almost the waist with a band of the same fabric sitting part way down to keep it perfectly in place. This creates just a subtle little key hole below the breast. The result is a very deep plunge but a very wearable one.
    • The back is a V to leave most of your upper back bare.
    • The skirt widens out as it nears the hem. A wide band of fabric circles all the way around the hem and the bottom edge is the same scallop as around the bodice.
    • The bodice is fully lined in a black silk and the lower panel of the skirt is a double layer of the same fabric. The skirt between is unlined.
    • It closes with a back hidden set zipper.
    • Tagged a modern Valentino 40
    • Excellent condition

Bust: 16-17.5" flat across the back seam and each cup is approx 6.5-7" across at the widest point

Bodice: 11" from top of shoulder to the top seam of the band under the bust.

Fall 2019 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Pastel Baby Blue Knit Jacket w Handmade Snowflake Buttons

I Have A Question: Fall 2019 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Pastel Baby Blue Knit Jacket w Handmade Snowflake Buttons

    • From the Act 1 Fall/Winter 2019 Chanel collection. This is the collection done for shops between the pre-collection and the runway shows. These are often specialized items that are made on an extremely limited basis.
    • Made under the creative direction of Karl Lagerfeld
    • The buttons on this one are so special. They are little snowflakes on a carved backdrop mixed with rhinestones. They are meant to evoke winter and when combined with the knit, the feel of being warm and cozy, nestled inside from the ice and snow on a winter's day.
    • There are five larger buttons down the front and then a slightly smaller version sits on each pocket and at each cuff.
    • Even though the sweater at first glance looks like it is made out of Angora, Chanel actually does not use Angora. Instead it is made out of a blend of cashmere and alpaca. This is a very expensive to produce, time consuming process and a amazing technical achievement in fabric.
    • The colour is a pale baby blue and even though we have tried to capture it as closely as possible here it is even better in person. It is the kind of piece that makes you gasp out loud when you see it.
    • It has a slightly cropped feel to it and I love the two little pockets on the front.
    • It buttons to close down the front and the pockets are functional but each is still lightly tacked shut as it came from Chanel.
    • It has its original Chanel packet with extra yarn inside and its original Chanel tag. It appears to be unworn.
    • This is a very rare and special Chanel piece especially in this pristine a condition.
    • The knit has some stretch and I have put the un-stretched, laying flat measurements below.
    • Tagged a Chanel 38
    • Excellent condition

Sleeves: 20" and are 12" around the upper arm

Late 1960s-70s Christian Dior by Marc Bohan Floral Print Cotton Smock Dress

I Have A Question: Late 1960s-70s Christian Dior by Marc Bohan Floral Print Cotton Smock Dress

    • This exceptional dress is by Marc Bohan for Christian Dior and it is a wonderful example of his work during this time period.
    • This best matches the work that he was doing from about 1969 to 1972 when he was doing these wonderful dresses. We found a similar one to this with variations on the print that this dress has and I have included it so that you can see how perfectly this will drape and fall on the body.
    • It is a very easy and comfortable dress to wear
    • The dress is made from a cotton that has a pretty floral print that covers the entire dress.
    • The neckline is set high and detailed with a black cotton collar that extends down the front and buttons to about the waist area.
    • Under that the bodice is meant to skim over you to fall loose and easy over the natural waist and then the skirt billows out from under that to the floor.
    • The sleeves are set into the shoulder with slight gathers and they have a more full cut that balloons out over the wrists. At their ends they are edged with that same black fabric that sits around the collar and this extends out and tie into pretty bows around the wrist.
    • The dress comes with its matching tie belt in the same fabric so you can wear it loose and easy or cinch in the waist for shape.
    • Once on the body the entire dress has this stunning movement and yet feels minimalist and elegant.
    • Unlined and slips over the head to wear. The front buttons up to about the waist and each sleeve ties with attached ties. The belt is original to the dress.
    • Tagged a vintage Dior 12 and the easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.
    • Excellent condition

Sleeves: 25" and are 13" around the upper arm
    Slightly inset shoulders: 14.5"
Bust: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam

    • Note that due to new regulations this coat can only ship to a Canadian address
    • Resort 2018 Prada runway Look 23
    • Under the creative direction of Miuccia Prada
    • The runway version did not have the gray underneath the chain metal so it was worn more as a tunic. When they added the grey silk band for the shops it allowed it to be worn as a mini dress
    • Made from a pale pink crepe with a soft grey design printed over it that incorporates the word Prada on both the front and back
    • The lower portion of the skirt is a pale grey stretch silk like fabric. A metal chain mail detailing goes around the top part of that lower skirt
    • It has a high collar and the sleeves are long. Each sleeve is finished in a pale pink feather cuff.
    • Pin-tuck detailing creates a very pretty and detailed finish at the front of the dress
    • The fit through the body is more full and open much like a 1920s flapper dress
    • It closes with a hidden set back zipper
    • Tagged a modern Prada 40
    • I see some teeny little marks on the grey silk and one tiny faint spot on the top of one shoulder. It has the slightest perfumey smell, otherwise in excellent condition.

Late 1970s Unlabeled Strapless Red Silk Dress w Gathered Bodice & Full Skirt

I Have A Question: Late 1970s Unlabeled Strapless Red Silk Dress w Gathered Bodice & Full Skirt

    • Unlabeled and came from the estate of a woman bought a lot of Oscar de la Renta, Fath, Versace and other high end labels and you can tell that this a dress of quality even without knowing its label.
    • It is made out of a beautiful clear and true red silk
    • The bodice is strapless and is fitted and shaped to accentuate your curves. The waist nips in and then it extends down one side into a sharp angle. I love how this lengthens the body and gives shape around the hip.
    • Below that the skirt is very full and billows out and around you beautifully. The way it is set into the angle of the skirt in soft gathers gives it its fullness. From the side this creates a beautiful angle from the waist to hem.
    • Fully lined in a red silk through the bodice and the skirt is lined in two layers of red silk
    • It closes with a side set zipper and has light boning through the bodice
    • Excellent condition

Bust: 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13" flat across from side seam to side seam

Gorgeous Spring 2003 Valentino Look 64 Red Silk Dress w Silk Chiffon Ties

I Have A Question: Gorgeous Spring 2003 Valentino Look 64 Red Silk Dress w Silk Chiffon Ties

    • The twin of this dress walked the runway in the Spring 2003 show for Look 64
    • Under the creative direction of the original Mr. Valentino
    • It was the only dress shown in this entire collection that season that was done in his signature Valentino red. So when you look through the collection photos it really stands out.
    • The show was a huge success and Vogue especially loved the evening pieces; "For the evening review, it gets even better. Valentino's communiqués from his couture collection show up as delicate metallic-embroidered chiffons made into fragile capes, cardigans or dresses. And for the grand occasion, there's a full battalion of the designer's fabulous signature chiffon gowns."
    • Suspended from the shoulders by two tiny straps in the same red silk. The bodice is seamed just under the breasts and have minimal darting.
    • It skims over the waist and hips and then from there it falls to the floor in a beautiful column of the red silk crepe.
    • The back of the dress is cut slightly longer so you have a tiny bit of a sweep behind you.
    • Two panels of silk chiffon wrap around the waist area to add detail and shape the dress. The panels are attached all the way around you and then loop through openings at the front of the dress. The ties are cut extra long and fall to just above the hem at the front of the dress.
    • The dress closes with a hidden set side zipper.
    • The top panel of the bodice is lined in a red silk and the rest of the dress is unlined.
    • Tagged a vintage Valentino 10.
    • I see a touch of grubbiness here and there around the hem but otherwise excellent condition

Bust: 17-17.5" flat across from side seam to side seam with a A-B cup
Seam under the bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14-16" flat across from side seam to side seam

    • The body of the piece is cut loose and easy.
    • It closes down the front with incredible oversized frog knots that are completely beaded. Another knot sits on the back.

1990s Gianni Versace Pale Pastel Salmon Silk Crepe Wrapped Bodice & Bare Back Dress

I Have A Question: 1990s Gianni Versace Pale Pastel Salmon Silk Crepe Wrapped Bodice & Bare Back Dress

    • Circa late 1990s
    • Under the creative direction of Gianni Versace
    • A muted pastel salmon colour that is more pastel feeling in real life than how it photoed here
    • The dress has a wide gathered band around the waist and a piece that is attached and loops in and behind one of the panels that form the top
    • The panels are one piece of fabric that loops around the neck and the down to attach into the waist. You cross it over itself so that it goes behind the neck. You can then wear them high up on the shoulder or have it cape and fall over the upper arm.
    • This leaves your entire back open and exposed
    • The skirt has an inner piece that acts a partial lining. The outer skirt drapes over that and forms those interesting pocket like pieces on each hip. It then drapes inwards and down to the hem with a centre slit up both the front and back of the skirt
    • It is a very interesting and an avant garde design
    • The bodice is made of two layers of the same fabric and the skirt has a partial lining through the hips and the rest of the skirt is unlined.
    • Tag a vintage Versace 42
    • Excellent condition

Bust: each panel is 11" flat across from side to side
Waist: to 15.5" flat across from side seam to side seam

Bodice: adjust depending on how you twist to wear it

Fall 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Runway Look 37 Emerald Green Suit

I Have A Question: Fall 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Runway Look 37 Emerald Green Suit

    • The twin of this gorgeous suit walked the Fall 2008 runway as Look 37
    • Under the creative direction of John Galliano
    • The show celebrated the 1960s with the opening music Simon & Garfunkel's 'Mrs. Robinson'. The models were styled with a nod to the 60s but in a highly exaggerated way.
    • Galliano said of the show "I am always looking for heroines who make me dream"
    • The suit is a brilliant green silk /cotton mix which keeps it light in weight but has enough structure to allow it to hold its intended shape perfectly.
    • The collar is wide and exaggerated and the suit closes with matching silk covered buttons and hidden set snaps down the front.
    • A little bow sits at the centre of the front and little flap pockets still have their tacking in place on each hip. The hips are shaped to curve outwards.
    • The end of the sleeves and the around the entire hem is heavily embellished with big round silver discs, glass or stone polished pieces, mixed with little gold sequins.
    • The skirt is cut in a little bit of a flare and will sit just above the knee depending on your height.
    • Both pieces are lined in a green silk
    • The jacket snaps and buttons to close down the front and the skirt closes with a hidden set side zipper
    • The jacket is tagged at FR42, GB14, IT46, US10. The skirt is tagged FR36, GB8, IT40, US4.
    • I see a teeny darkened mark on the skirt near a seam and a teeny faint spot on the back that is very minor. There are some missing embellishments here and there. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition.

    Jacket
Sleeves: approx 20" and are 12" around the upper arm

    • The twin of the skirt walked the runway for Look 85

Spring 2001 Chanel Tweed Jacket & Silk Skirt Set w Fall 1999 Cashmere Shell

I Have A Question: Spring 2001 Chanel Tweed Jacket & Silk Skirt Set w Fall 1999 Cashmere Shell

This is a gorgeous little Spring 2001 Chanel set with a tweed boucle jacket and a silk chiffon skirt. The owner paired a Chanel cashmere shell from Fall 1999 with this suit and we are adding that in as a bonus. The show that year took place in the Carrousel de Louvre where the Chanel team constructed a multi-coloured Neon Staircase for the models to walk down. The Chanel 'Catwalk' books noted that the models sported tons of colour to go with that staircase and the collection showcased red, pink, blue, coral and purple besides the standard black and white used so often by Karl. You can see some of those colours reflected in this set. It is always nice to have a set with multiple pieces because the opportunity to mix a match with things that you already own just makes it that much more versatile.

The jacket is made from one of the classic Chanel signature fabrics that combines a fine wool with tiny sequins sewn onto some of the stripes woven through the tweed. I love the little shot of glitz this adds. The colour is done in shades of pinks that keep it very rich in feel. The jacket is a great cut. The sleeves are long and I love the addition of the silk chiffon cuffs at the end of each sleeve that ties it perfectly in with the skirt. The collar is notched and vertical panels run down the front on either side of the buttons. Another of these panels runs down the centre of the back. This add structure to the jacket and it is also what the belt of the jacket loops through, which is very clever. The jacket buttons to close down the front and the belt snaps into place. This tops a pretty silk chiffon skirt that is made out of a silk chiffon with the Chanel logo printed in little watercolour painted feeling squares. It has a simple banded waist and the upper part of the skirt is more fitted with closed pleats circling around the hips. These open up from there so the skirt has lots of movement and softness around you. The skirt is lined in deep fuchsia silk. The little bonus shell that goes under this is a perfect purple sleeveless top made of the finest Chanel cashmere. This is classic Chanel and it is exceptional. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

The jacket is fully lined in a Chanel embossed fuchsia silk and buttons to close down the front. The belt loops around the jacket and snaps to close. A classic Chanel chain is stitched along the inner hem. Light padding in each shoulder. Some of the colour has rubbed off of all the buttons. Please see the photo after the label shot. The skirt closes with a MOP button at the waist and zips to close under that. The shell is unlined and slips on to wear. The jacket is tagged a Chanel 36, the skirt has no size tag but feels generous in cut and the shell a size L.

And just a note on their fabrics.... The Chanel boucle and tweeds are created with their proprietary method of weaving that they themselves describe as "by weaving the warp and weft, using a variety of different kinds of threads which creates a unique and somewhat irregular appearance. The warp – vertically strung – is the background of the fabric, the base that will support the assembly of materials. There can be up to 12 different threads used for a single warp. The weft – woven horizontally – gives the fabric its unique character and can have an unlimited number of threads. Tight, perforated, textured, thick, with a relief, plaited, random, twill… the potential number of effects is endless". This technique gives you that classic Chanel look.

c.1973 Loris Azzaro Backless Black Jersey Dress w Gold & Black Sequin Flame Halter Top

I Have A Question: c.1973 Loris Azzaro Backless Black Jersey Dress w Gold & Black Sequin Flame Halter Top

Loris Azzaro launched his label in 1967 and quickly defined his trademark looks by using ornate beading, sequins, daring cut-outs and avant garde ways of defining the body. Some of the most beautiful women in the world wore his clothing including Marisa Berenson, Raquel Welch, Jane Birkin, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Tina Turner. It was a label that defined sexiness and had a certain French flare that women world-wide loved. This is a stunning example of his work during the early seventies. We have had several examples of dresses from in and around 1973 that combined the same jagged 'flame' cuts with sequins. I have included some of those for you to see here.

This is an amazing Azzaro. The skirt is made out of a black silk jersey that is cut on the bias and and falls to the floor. It widens out a touch as it near the hem. Topping this is the most amazing bodice. It is made from curving panels of sequins and the panels have been stitched and overlapped to create the shape that you see. When you realize that this all had to be pieced together in an exact way to create this, it seems that much more amazing. Panels covered in gold sequins extend up to wrap around the back of the neck. Those are covered by two panels of black sequins  at the front and then there is another black sequin panel on each side. The panels are stitched together to the waist so that they are one solid piece forming the bodice but where they hit the waist seam they fall freely beside each other. This is what gives the suggestion of the 'flame' feel. They extend past the waist seam by between eight and 9 inches adding some movement. The back scoops down so your entire upper back is left bare and exposed. Lots of hand finishes inside. It is a fantastic example of his work. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in black silky rayon through the bodice and a second layer of jersey through the skirt. A slit up one side. Closes with a back zipper and hooks behind the neck. Hand finishes throughout.

Bust: each side of the bust covers 7" flat across from side to side
Waist: to 14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: 18-20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Bodice: 15" from neck to waist
Total length: approx 60" from neck to hem
    Slit: 17" from hem up

    Modern Sizing Equivalent: SML-MED

Spectacular Fall 1976 Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld Runway Documented Black Silk & Gold Lame Dress

I Have A Question: Spectacular Fall 1976 Chloe by Karl Lagerfeld Runway Documented Black Silk & Gold Lame Dress

The twin of this dress walked the runway for Fall 1975. Chloe was headed by Karl Lagerfeld at this time making it a historically important piece of fashion history. The evening pieces in this collection were a hit with the press. The Los Angeles Times even said they were "collectors items". On the runway, the dress was worn with a thin gold belt that matches the gold colour on the inside of the back floating panels. I love that this shows you that you can wear it either way and it looks equally fantastic.

The dress is made from a light scarf weight black silk and the back panels are made of the same and then those are completely lined in a darker gold metallic silk lame. The neckline is piped with the same silk and the fabric is gathered softly into it. The neckline is cut slightly wide across and then the dress falls from there to skim over the bust, waist and hips to the floor. It gradually widens out to be quite wide by the hem.  The back dips into a low V above hidden set snaps to close it. I love how this gives you a glimpse of bare skin behind the panels when you move a certain way. The two long panels that hide that open back are are attached along the back neckline and then fall loose to the floor. They are very wide by the time they reach their ends. Each one opens up a full 29" across the bottom. They are lined in a beautiful deep gold metallic lame that has an almost copper tone feel to it. The lame has a horizontal weave to it which gives it added texture. When this is on and moving, these billow out and float behind you. It is utterly fantastic. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

The dress is unlined and closes with a back hidden set series of hooks at the base of the V at the back. There is also a hook behind the neck. Hand finishes throughout. The easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. I see one small area near the bottom of one of the panels on the black side where the fabric is just a tiny bit lighter. It is very minimal and I could not catch it on camera.

Bust: 16-18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 15" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam

Cruise 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Embellished One Shoulder Black Silk Chiffon Dress

I Have A Question: Cruise 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Embellished One Shoulder Black Silk Chiffon Dress

This gorgeous little dress was a dress was based on a combination of Looks 10 and Look 52. This version has been done in all black, it has the one shoulder cut of Look 10 combined with the bead work and embellishments that you see on look 52. Vogue said that the collection was done "in an electric-bright palette.. and channelled Barbara Hutton's sixties—a glittery, lame, paisley, and leopard-print world of muumuus, bikinis, capri pants, trapeze dresses, cat-eye sunglasses, and scarf-wrapped hats. It bordered on camp... and Kitschy or not, there was no denying the workmanship that went into crafting the large collection." I love that the photo of the blue dress still shows you how fantastic this is on the body.

The dress is made out of a black silk chiffon that has a slight bit of texture to it. It is cut on the bias with seaming at the waist for a bit of structure. The wide shoulder panel curves over to the back and at the front it drapes across the bust. On both sides of the bodice there is a spray of intricate floral appliques detailed with black jet beads and sequins. These catch the light beautifully as you move. The waist nips in and the dress comes with its original belt that lets you cinch the waist in as much as you like. I love the big jewel buckle of the belt. The skirt flares out under that to the hem. There is a good amount of silk chiffon through the skirt which gives you gorgeous movement when you move. It is stunning. A signature row of tightly spaced buttons run up one side. A very pretty and wearable example of his work. Excellent condition with a small note below

Fully lined in a black silk and closes at the side with a series of silk covered buttons. The belt comes in its original Dior pouch. I see one tiny hole near the hem. Please see the photo after the label shot. Tagged a FR42, GB14, IT46, US10.

Incredible Fall 1987 Bill Blass Runway Deep Blue Silk & Black Velvet Dress w Back Bustles & Bows

I Have A Question: Incredible Fall 1987 Bill Blass Runway Deep Blue Silk & Black Velvet Dress w Back Bustles & Bows

The twin of this dress walked the Fall 1987 runway and I love that we found a reference photo so you can see just how fantastic this is once on. It is one of those dresses that looks amazing on the dress form but is even better on an actual person. Bill Blass launched his label in 1970 when he bought out the Maurice Rentner label and re-launched it under his own name. Blass was arguably one of the most famous of the American designers. His forte was the ability to mix simple styles with unexpected materials in way that was very flattering to the wearer. This dress is so unusual and I absolutely love it. It is truly one of the most spectacular of his dresses that I have had in the shop.

This dress is incredible. The fabric alone is a work of art. The base is a rich blue silk and then onto this is a fantastic design made of out a black velvet. The velvet is very soft to the touch with a chenille like finish that gives the design a beautiful texture and softness. The dress has the feel of an antique 18th century gown and I love this reference back to the past. The top is a fitted and strapless with a band of black silk wrapping around the breasts. The blue silk and black velvet fall from there to skim outward over the waist and hips and then narrow back down to the floor as it reaches the hem. This gives the front of the dress a more long and lean feel but with a hint that something special might happen as you turn. The back is the star of the show. Sitting over the top of the closure at the back is a large black velvet bow. This tops an added panel that has the feel of a bustle. I is made out of a tremendous sweep of the same fabric. It  expands outward and then loops back in to attach just under the hips. A second black velvet bow sits at the base of where it swoops in. The sheer volume of fabric used to create this nod to a bustle is fantastic. From every angle of the dress you get these wondrous sweeping views because of this unusual detail. There is a slit under that at the back to allow you to walk. The combination of the beautiful fabric and that extra detailing is just amazing. It is one of the most beautiful dresses I have seen from him. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a black silk. It closes with a back painted metal zipper hidden under a seam and there is an inner hooked waist stay. Light boning through the bodice. Hand work throughout.

Bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam

Fall 1980 John Anthony Couture Black Hand Sequin & Beaded Jacket w Incredible Rhinestone Closures

I Have A Question: Fall 1980 John Anthony Couture Black Hand Sequin & Beaded Jacket w Incredible Rhinestone Closures

John Anthony's business was all done on a made-to-order basis. That means that each piece is the only one that exists, or in the very occasional circumstance that there are similar pieces, only a very limited amount of pieces were made. And to make things even a little more special.... the pieces I have in the shop come directly from John's archive. He is one of the great American couturiers and he was known for his sharp tailoring and striking evening wear. He launched his atelier in 1971 and he quickly rose to fame, winning a Coty award in 1972 and then again in 1976. This jacket is from his Fall 1980 collection and is the original sample from his archives.

This jacket is stunning to see in real life. It has a beautiful sleek cut and it is meant to be more fitted through the body. I love that it completely closes as this allows you to wear it on its own or layer it over other pieces. The shoulders have light padding for shape and the sleeves are long. The waist is brought in just a touch. It is meticulously tailored and John told me that creating jackets were one of his favourites things to do. They are infinitely challenging to have them sit perfectly on the body and his are tailored to a master level. It has no collar and the neckline is a sleek V.  It closes down the front with a series of hidden silk covered snaps and then there are three glass rhinestone buckles that close over the front. They are spectacular. The entire jacket is covered in glossy black sequins. These have all been set by hand and completely cover the silk that the jacket is made from. Each sequin is laid out so that it slightly overlaps its neighbour. To think of the man hours out into this jacket is incredible. The final finishing touch on this one are the bold motifs beaded onto the sequins on each side at the front. These have a 3D effect and sit up and off of the sequins below. The personal attention to each piece is clearly seen in the workmanship of his designs. His work is very expensive and beaded jackets like this retailed for up to $6,500 in the 80s and 90s which would be around $25k in modern dollars to recreate at this level. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition

Filly lined in a black silk and closes at the front with hidden set silk covered snaps. The rhinestone clasps close over that. Padding in each shoulder. Made by hand. A one of a kind..

Gorgeous Fall 2003 John Galliano Bias Cut Deep Purple Silk Dress w Draped Arm Panels

I Have A Question: Gorgeous Fall 2003 John Galliano Bias Cut Deep Purple Silk Dress w Draped Arm Panels

This dress is from John Galliano's own label and is an incredible example of his work from this time period. This is a production piece that was not shown on the runway but would have been made in limited quantities for the shops. For this season he had emphasized a glamorous hourglass shape mixed with nods to pinup girl lingerie style dressing. These bias cut dresses always harken back to his love of the 1930s and 1940s and you can see that influence in them. This dress with its cut out detailing and that fantastic draping of fabric across the shoulders is absolutely beautiful. This is classic Galliano and is extremely flattering once on the body.

The dress is made out of a deep purple silk that has a slight bit of texture to it. It is completely cut on the bias in that signature cut he does so well and that we all love. The dress falls from a delicate strap that curves up and behind the neck and then it drapes down and over the body to the floor. The bias cut of it allows the dress to skim and drape over you so that it shows every curve but is not overly fitted. The fabric has been pieced together with dropped and angled panels throughout to create the beautiful shape that you see. The dress is suspended from tiny straps that curve up and around the neck. At the back, the strap meet behind the neck and then drop down the centre of the back and panels of silk are suspended from it. These curving panels can be worn either down and under the arms or you can drape your arms through them to create a beautiful curving 'sleeve' effect over the arm. I think that on a real body you might even be able to get clever and do some other styling tricks with them as well. The dress glides over the body past the bust, waist and hips and then flares out as it reaches the hem. It buttons to close down the side with a row of his signature buttons covered in the same silk and then on the other side the fabric is gathered in and up into a wired circle. The circle is open in the centre and the panels that gather into the circle have been cut out and opened so that it forms the shape of a flower trailing over one hip. The dress is lined in a crepe silk but you could choose to remove that lining and have that side be completely bare so that your skin showed through if you wished. I have seen this dress in another colour where someone did that and it looked great. It is an incredible feat of patterning. The dress is even better in person and on the body as the photos cannot fully convey how a bias cut dress moves. It will only truly come to life when worn. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

Fully lined in a slightly deeper purple silk crepe and closes at the side with a series of silk covered buttons. I see perhaps a tiny pull in the fabric here and there which happens with this fabric and a bit of shininess here and there from pressing near seams. All minor and mentioned for accuracy. Tagged a FR42, GB14, US8. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes with it just draping more in a smaller frame

Bust: 16-19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13-16" flat across from side seam to side seam

Fall 1990 Christian Lacroix Haute Couture Silk Runway Backless Dress w Original Jewel Brooches

I Have A Question: Fall 1990 Christian Lacroix Haute Couture Silk Runway Backless Dress w Original Jewel Brooches

The twin of this dress in a different colour walked the Fall 1990 runway and we have included the reference photos of that so that you can see just how fabulous this one is on the body. This dress is extra special as it  includes the incredible brooches on both the front and back of the dress just like the runway piece. It is unlabeled but came to me directly from the original couture client from whom many of the other Haute Couture pieces I have had in the shop. She was fitted by Christian himself for the dress which makes it that much more special. It is a stunning example of his Couture work during this time period.

The dress is made out of an iridescent silk taffeta. I love how the colour changes depending on how the light hits it. It can go from a deep bronze to a more iridescent blue / purple tone. The  sleeves are long and there is a row of five silk covered buttons at each wrist. It is gathered at one side at the front with the first of two incredible jewelled brooches the dress came with. The brooch is hand made from a gold toned metal with large golden topaz glass crystals mixed with brilliant blue crystals. The neckline angles down and across your shoulder to leave one shoulder bare and exposed. At the back, the neckline dips dramatically down into a deep open V that leaves your skin bare and exposed. The second huge jewelled brooch sits at the base of that. A panel of silk flares out to one side to create a half bow, half bustle feel. The interior of that panel has extra structure so that it stays perfectly in place. The skirt falls below that and depending in your height will sit at about the knee or just above. It is fabulous. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

Fully lined in a black silk organza and closes with an elaborate mix of a zipper, snaps and hooks at the back with one panel looping through the other over the inner closures. There is a fused strip of rubber ribbon along the inner neckline to help hold it in place and this has degraded a touch here and there. One stone is missing at the bottom of the front brooch. The brooches are tacked into place at present but are removable. You can see little marks on the fabric under them where the pin has been pushed through in different places. There are a couple teeny pinhead snags on the fabric where the brooches have caught on the silk near the brooches. These are all very minor and mentioned for accuracy. Sourced from the original couture client and Christian Lacroix told me through instagram that he remembers fitting her.

Prettiest Spring 2006 Christian Dior by John Galliano Pink Ombre Silk Chiffon Dress

I Have A Question: Prettiest Spring 2006 Christian Dior by John Galliano Pink Ombre Silk Chiffon Dress

John Galliano began his own label in 1984 and he was instantly a bit of a 'boy wonder' in fashion. He was British Fashion Council Designer of the Year in 1987, 1994 and 1995. In 1991 he made his Paris catwalk debut. In 1995 he was asked to head Givenchy and then went to Dior in October of 1996. His work, especially the bias cut pieces that he did, have a feeling of the decadence and abandonment of the twenties and they are beautifully cut. They marry Old Hollywood with the minimalist spirit of the nineties and early 2000s and the results are stunning. This is an amazing example of his work from the Spring 2006 season and it is gorgeous. This dress was a piece made for production and is a more minimalist version of the dress that walked the runway for Look 40 that season. It has all the things we love about his work presented in a beautifully chic and minimalist package that still has that strong impact of colour that the runway version had.

The dress is made out of a feather light silk chiffon that moves beautifully over the body. It is all cut on the bias so is easy to wear. I love the cut of the bodice. Twisted silk chiffon straps extend out from a peak at the centre front. They curve up and around the neck and then they fall down each side of your back. The entire back is scooped low so you have this bare expanse of skin showing. It drapes over the bodice and skims over the waist with an easy more generous feel. A gathered band of the silk chiffon is wrapped around the top of the hips and a long tie extends down all the way to the hem from where that attached sash meets at the side. From there the dress drapes to the the floor and widens out a touch as it nears the hem. A slit runs up one side of the skirt and this allows the silk to catch the air and move easily around you as you walk. The seaming is a nod to the work you see from the twenties and thirties. The colour and the way that it changes as it moves down the dress is of course one of the most important elements of the piece. It starts out to be a soft taupe at the top and then gradually changes to a pale pink to a vivid pink around the lower skirt and ends in a deep dusty fuchsia. It is stunning to have this brilliant pop of colour. A signature row of tightly spaced silk covered buttons run up one side for the perfect finish. The dress is even better in person and on the body as the static photos cannot fully convey how the dress moves once on the body. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a matching taupe silk and closes at the side with a series of silk covered buttons. The bias cut allows some movement in the fabric and I have put the comfortable range when laying flat below. Tagged a vintage Dior F40, GB12, IT44, US8

2007 Alexander McQueen Purple Bias Cut Liquid Silk Satin Dress w Amazing Sleeves

I Have A Question: 2007 Alexander McQueen Purple Bias Cut Liquid Silk Satin Dress w Amazing Sleeves

This is an incredible dress. This was a dress produced for the shops and it is especially interesting because it is a dress that was produced again in 2011 and re-issued in an ivory for the wedding collection that year. I know this because I have had that dress listed in the shop now and you can see it here. You will recall that I recently had a lace dress in that was also made under the same circumstances where a original dress done by Lee was re-issued at a later date for a wedding collection. I love having the original and as far as I am aware it was only produced in black and this purple in 2007. It has that same bias cut draped feel as the McQueen that Elle Fanning borrowed and wore recently so that will give you an idea of it on

This is a stunningly beautiful dress. It is one that will come to life even more once it is on an actual body and will only truly come to life when worn. It is a dress that definitely takes inspiration from the bias cut couture pieces of the 20s and 30s. McQueen was a master tailor and the seam work and simplicity of this dress do not hide that fact. It is made from a beautifully weighted purple silk satin that has a slight texture running through it. It has that same liquid feel that the best of the 1930s pieces did that were made from this similar fabrics. Like those dresses of the thirties this is also cut on the bias but with a more shaped silhouette. I love that the fabric is heavy enough and that the dress is lined so that it will not highlight 'flaws' underneath like some bias cut pieces can. It is cut to flow over the body and skims over the bust, waist and hips to the floor. The neckline drops into a V at the front for a bit of skin to show. It glides over the bust and there is this interesting softly curved seam that starts at the bust and runs down into the side seam. This not only helps to add a little shape but it also becomes this interesting design feature and a subtle way for him to work in one of his signature angled seams. The skirt continues past and over the hips and then flares out as it reaches the hem. At the back there is extra fabric worked around the centre seam to give you a trained effect behind you. This flaring out at the bottom and the extra bit at the back give you fabulous movement when you walk or move. It also adds to the hourglass shape the dress has. The sleeves are incredible. They are set in these soft loops around each arm. They leave the sides of the shoulders bare and really add to the thirties feel of the dress. They are spectacular. It is in its original uncut length. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a purple silk satin and closes with a hidden set back zipper. Tagged a McQueen 40. The bias cut fabric does have some stretch. The measurements below give you the comfortable range the fabric has when lying flat. It is in its original supermodel length. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. I see perhaps a touch of grubbiness and scuffing near the hem bit it is very minor and mentioned for accuracy only.

Bust: 16-20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 14" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam

Spring 1982 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture 'Indian Collection' Ivory & Black Tunic/Dress

I Have A Question: Spring 1982 Yves Saint Laurent Haute Couture 'Indian Collection' Ivory & Black Tunic/Dress

The Spring 1982 collection marked the 20th anniversary of Yves' Couture house. In the book Yves Saint Laurent: Catwalk they note that the historical importance of his collection made him feel very anxious. He was quoted as saying "I am frightened of this collection. I am far more anxious than I was for my first collection. It is a reassessment of 20 years… It is the end of adolescence, the beginning of maturity. I really feel like a beginner." But of course, it was a masterpiece of a collection and raved about.

The collection was extravagant and was heavily influenced by India and the beautiful work done by Indian artisans. There was a play on proportions with wide shoulders and a narrowing at the hips. This tunic was one of the more simple pieces in the collection but it still has the touch of an oversized shoulder and the ease and elegance of a beautiful silk in its making.

I love that you can wear this as a tunic over something else. It was shown over a skirt and a modern girl could easily wear it on its own as a dress. It was shown belted with a silk sash in the advance photos for the collection and you could easily add a belt or ribbon if you wanted to have more shape. The shoulders are padded and set a little wide. The sleeves are cut wide through the upper arm and even as they narrow to the wrist, they are still wide set by the cuff. The cuffs and collar are done in a black silk and I love the contrast to the ivory of the body. It is meant to be worn fairly loose and easy to skim over your bust, waist and hips. It falls to about the knee or just above depending on your height. A slit runs up each side and you can see that he has lined the entire inside of the piece in that same black silk as the collar and cuffs. When you walk and move the slits let you to see that flash of black which ties the whole piece together perfectly. The silk is a rich and heavy weight that drapes beautifully over the body. This is a dress that really needs to come to life with a body in it and my dress form photos are nowhere near to doing it justice. It is completely made by hand and an absolutely beautiful, refined and easy piece of true Couture. Excellent condition with a small note below.

Fully lined in a handset black silk and closes at the back with a hand set zipper. Handmade padding in each shoulder. It is completely made by hand to Couture standards. Has it proper YSL numbered Couture label. There is one small mark near the elbow of one sleeve. Please see the photo after the label shot. The easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes. On a smaller frame, it will just feel more oversized.

Sleeves: 22.5" and each is 20" around the upper arm
    Exaggerated shoulders: 16.5"
Bust: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam

Rare 1969 Thea Porter Runway Embroidered Organza & Hand Screened Cotton Dress

I Have A Question: Rare 1969 Thea Porter Runway Embroidered Organza & Hand Screened Cotton Dress

The twin of this dress appears in the book on Thea Porter's work that accompanied the exhibit on her work. The photo appears on page 73. The caption in the book notes that "Claudia Bruce wearing a peasant style dress in a Persian paisley print combined with Damascus fabric and a leather and feather headdress. Greeks Street, London, 1969.". It is so rare to find runway photos of her shows and to have all this extra information is fantastic. 1969 is also an interesting year to note because it is the year that she started to sell her designs at Giorgio Beverly Hills. It was said that when word got out that Thea had new things in the Girorgio boutique, women ran to be able to get a piece for themselves, they sold out that fast. This is the only one I have ever seen like this outside of that book photo. Given her extremely limited run on certain pieces it may in fact be the only other one that was made and exists. It is truly a very special piece.

The dress is a fantastic combination of fabrics and this was something that Thea excelled at. She had the ability to source these fantastic antique fabrics and then mix and match them to put them together in a way that you had never seen done before. The front panel combines a floral and paisley print with beautiful detailing between. It runs down the front in a long rectangle shape and then she curved it over the shoulders and ran another panel of it down the back. The rest of the dress is made out of a clay coloured silk organza that has a beautiful pattern hand embroidered over its surface. A little chain of white embroidery runs through that pattern for a little bit of a pop. At the end of each sleeve there is an insert of the cotton fabric. This is set in a wide band all around the cuffs with these little points running up into the sleeve. The shape of the dress is easy and comfortable to wear. It skims over the body and flares out slightly as it reaches the hem. Slits run up each side so you get a flash of leg when you walk. Each sleeve is fantastic. Each is a full and voluminous balloon type sleeve that puffs up extravagantly around each wrist. The collar on the dress is perhaps the best part. A tie loops through the front part only and for most of the shots I have tied it enough so that it scoops like it does in the runway shot. However, you can loosen the front up and that allows you to push the dress down the shoulders to expose a full expanse of bare skin across the top of the shoulders. It is phenomenal. This is a very rare example of her work and most likely you will never see one again. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips over the head to wear. The front collar can be adjusted with the tie as described above. Each cuff has a snap to close. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. There are little bits of blue dye on the front and back panel that looks like it has run a touch but I believe this is inherent to this fabric and this may have been like that since the day it was made. I do not think it is a flaw, but rather a result of the fact that the fabric was hand screened. Tagged a vintage Thea Porter UK 10. The easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

Sleeves: approx 15" and will come up a touch when the cuff is closed. Each upper arm is 13.75" around
    Shoulders: no true defined scene
Bust: to 19" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: to 18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 22" flat across from side seam to side seam

I Have A Question: Brilliant Spring 2002 Versace by Donatella Versace Jacket & Beaded Pant Set

This set is from Spring 2002 and it is fabulous. On the runway this print was shown throughout the first part of the show and the jacket and pant that make up the set were shown separately. I love that this gives you some styling ideas when you don't want to wear them together as the full set. The book Versace:Catwalk noted that Donatella's "graphic floral prints echoed Andy Warhol's multi huge floral paintings as did the backdrop". I love that.

This two piece set combines a beautifully cut jacket with pants that are beaded from the knee down. I always love a suit because of the ability this gives you to mix and match the pieces with things you already own. The incredible floral print give the suit this incredible rock 'n' roll feel. The jacket is tailored with a sleek cut that follows the curves of the body. It has no collar and the sleeves are long with a notch opening up each wrist. A series of tightly spaced, hidden set, hook and eye close the jacket at the front. It comes in at the waist a touch for shape and is meant to follow the curves of the body, but without being too tight. The floral print that covers the jacket is spectacular to see. The fabric of the jacket is an almost canvas feeling cotton mix with a slight texture that gives the perfect backdrop to the print. The pants are made of a super light in weight stretch fabric that lets the pants hug the body like a second skin. There is a small band at the waist that is meant to flip inwards and then nothing else to break the eye as they fall in a fairly straight boot cut to the floor. From about the knee down the floral print is covered in matching coloured beads and sequins. These catch the light terrifically as you move. It is fabulous and a great little piece of fashion history. Excellent condition

The jacket is lined in an ivory Versace logo embossed fabric and hooks to close at the front. The pants are unlined and close with a back zipper. Padding in each shoulder of the jacket. Both pieces appear to have been worn very little if at all. The pants are tagged a 42 and the jacket has no size tag present. The hips of the pants have some stretch and the comfortable range is given in the measurements below.

Sensational 1972 Yves Saint Laurent Red Floral Silk Chiffon & Red Silk Dress w Balloon Sleeves & Pleat Detailing

I Have A Question: Sensational 1972 Yves Saint Laurent Red Floral Silk Chiffon & Red Silk Dress w Balloon Sleeves & Pleat Detailing

When dating this extraordinary Yves Saint Laurent dress, we found a photo of a piece with almost an identical cut bodice from 1972 along with several runway photos that show other pieces with that same cut to the bodice. I have included those here for you and it is interesting to note that the pleating technique that is used around the upper hip of the skirt was also done in a more intricate fashion for the 1974 Couture show. Yves often use ideas from both collections. - Rive Gauche and Couture - to build and develop ideas and it is fascinating to see the progression of his work from garment to garment. This is an incredibly beautiful example of his work from this time period.

This dress combines a floral silk chiffon with a muted red silk on the skirt. This combination is absolutely gorgeous. Is combination of silks give the dress just enough weight and structure to be able to create the impressive lines and volume that you see but while still making it feel soft and romantic. The colours are spectacular. The top is a printed silk chiffon, and it has a stunning floral pattern in red purples and greens that float over the entire bodice and the sleeves. The bodice is cut to skim over you and the waist nips in. It plunges at the front and crosses over itself, and the neckline has been detailed with ruffles that begin at the back of the neck and circle around to follow the V at the front and then run down to the waist. piping in the same fabric detail. The waste and ties have been left off to the side to hang down and create a pretty little detail. The skirt falls to the floor from there and it has yards and yards of fabric in it that creates the fullness and volume that you see. The skirt falls in a gently widening line and is quite full by the time it reaches the hem. I love the volume that this type of fabric creates and how it billows around you as you move but at the same time it is as light as a feather. Around the entire upper hip area, and starting at the waist or a series of tiny cleats that gradually open out to create the volume underneath. This intricate detail is a beautiful addition to the dress. The sleeves are outstanding. Each is a single layer of the silk chiffon and are wide and very full. They are caught up at the wrist with a circle full circle ruffle underneath. This creates a beautiful and dramatic finish to the top. I love everything about this dress. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a red silk and closes at the back with a hidden set painted met zipper. Attached ties at the waist and elastic in each cuff. The silk skirt and the exterior layer is a tool ruffle that helps keep the volume through the skirt. Tagged a vintage YSL 38. I see some light marks around the hem of the skirt.

Sleeves: 24" and 14" around the upper arm
    Slightly inset shoulders: 14.5"

Waist: 13" flat across from side seam to side seam
