Documented 1972 Oscar de la Renta Silk Kimono Dress

If you are an Oscar de la Renta fan you probably instantly recognized this as one of his pieces. I have had this exact dress in the past in a different color way so knew what it was immediately despite the fact that it has lost its label along the way since its creation. The dress is visually stunning and one of my favorites. It is made of a combination of a printed scarf weight silk with the chiffon woven through with a glossier silk in bands. The blue on yellow give it a china doll effect and the frog knots and side button details further this nod to the far east. Its beautiful and simple lines are offset by the vibrant color and that amazing wide belt. The belt closed down the side to pick up the silk covered button detail that runs down the bodice and cinches and defines the waist. The sleeves are left unlined and cut wide and full to billow softly above the wrist. The skirt cascades to to a tea length in a full swath of silk and I love the effect of the chiffon over an inner silk lining. Very happy to have dated it to 1972 based on the reference photo from Vogue. Presents as excellent condition

Fully lined with a yellow silk and closes with a back, hand set metal zipper with hook and eye at the neck. The belt is attached and closes with the frog knots as show. There are three small spots - the most prominent is on the upper sleeve and a very faint one on the front above the belt and one on the skirt. I could barely capture the two and the one on the sleeve may come out with additional cleaning. No label. Hand finishes and priced accordingly.
