1970s Yves Saint Laurent Chic Blue Felt Fedora Hat
A fabulous, deep blue soft felt Yves Saint Laurent hat that feels fresh and relevant. The brim is top stitched with an array of pretty pastel color stitched stripes - pink, blue, yellow and white. These also have been done on the bands that cross over the top of the hat and are anchored by little gold crosses. The colors are very subtle and are a nice little touch that becomes apparent as you get closer to the hat. It feels very on point and modern. Excellent condition
Minimal wear to inside band from past wearing. Otherwise appears new
Size: 22" circumference
This is in clean, as found condition. Thoroughly checked over before shipping, it will be ready to wear upon arrival.
1970s Stavropoulos Hand Beaded Bias Cut Silk Chiiffon Dress
George Stavropoulos was an amazing designer and his work is extremely overlooked in my opinion. He was known for his evening wear and his signature looks often involved draping and the use of multiple layers of silk done on a bias cut. He did not like overt, flashy ornamentation and instead focused on cut and fabric to convey the beauty of each piece. It was said that his gowns "seemed to float on air". He launched his label in 1960 and soon was dressing women like Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy, Barbra Streisand and Maria Callas. The majority of his gowns are almost entirely made by hand and to couture standards. By the early 1980s a gown by him started at around $8500 and they went up in cost from there - that starting price point equals to around $26,000 in today's dollars. So when you buy a vintage Stavropoulos gown you are getting incredible value for your money. The only reason many of his gowns are not considered Haute Couture is because he was not an official member of the association.
This is a wonderful example of his work. The color is the most beautiful and romantic shade of pale lavender over inner layers of the palest blue and creams. There are five full layers of the finest, lightest silk laid over each other that make up the body of this gown. Each layer is bias cut ad float over each other and move beautifully. The three most inner layers are an off-white colored silk. This is then topped by a pale baby blue layer of silk and then the final exterior player is that pale, pastel purple. This gives the gown a remarkable and unique color. That combined with the incredible movement that silk has as you move is fabulous. I love that you you get a glimpse of the other layers and colors. The entire gown is entirely cut on the bias so drapes to skim over your body when on. This is also a feat of technical achievement to have all those bias cut layers sit over each other so perfectly. The sleeves are very full and each poufs out beautifully above the wrist and are finished with a bead applique cuff. The front and back plunge into V's and there is a hand done applique of fine bead work that curves over one side of the bust and down to the waist on the other side. It is a work of art, very romantic and ethereal in feel and even better in person then how it photoed. Overall excellent condition with some condition notes to review below.
The inner layers of silk act as the lining and there are a total of 5 layers of silk as described above. It closes with a back hand set, painted metal zipper. There are some faint water spots/smudges scattered across the front and a faint spot on one arm. I have had it lightly cleaned when it came into the studio and these may come out more with a more aggressive round of cleaning.

1970s YSL Silk Tiered Skirt Bow Dress
I am just enamored with this piece and if you think it is even remotely fabulous when looking at the photos, then you will squeal when you see it in person. Made from fine silk that looks as new as the day it was made. The print on this set custom screened on to that silk and is a confection of darling, pretty bows from top to bottom. This fairly whimsical and girlie design is balance by the stark white on black colorway. The skirt is cut to skim the hips and hug your curves and it ends with two tiers of ruffles, each 5.5" wide, that circle the hem. The bodice is also cut to fit and hug the body with shoulders that are gathered so they puff slightly at the top and are fuller through the upper arm and then narrow in at the wrist. Another gorgeous ruffle finishes each sleeve. That same feminine ruffled is used once more around the deep V neckline. The original sash is present and you can use this to wrap around the waist to cinch and define it even further! It is beautiful, highly collectible and it is in excellent condition.
Fully lined in a fine black silk and closes with a side painted metal zipper. It has its original fabric sash that is also in excellent condition. The sash measures 4" x 106"
