They split to run down either side of the back and then attach back in at the dress. This leaves your entire back open and exposed. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThere is a little keyhole under the gathering at the front and then the side angle down to meet the back. From there it skims over the bust, waist and hips. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe body of the dress is made out of the prettiest pastel turquoise silk chiffon and then it has a layer of silk under that over that so that it is opaque enough to wear. The colour is even better in person.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe seaming on the dress is intricate and reminiscent of 1920s couture. It is all made from bias cut panels that have been pieced together so that it falls perfectly over you.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eI love how the skirt is made from different panels that are left separately to create the very pretty and swinging skirt. The silk is all cut on the bias so you get a ton of movement once this is on and you move. Parts of the skirt are longer than the other, and this adds to the movement created around you.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe dress is fully lined in a matching silk. It closes with a row of his signature silk covered buttons and loops down one side. I see a tiny bit of spotting on one ruffle. There is so much fabric and movement. It is extremely minor. Pipart, who had previously worked for Balmain, Fath, and Patou, brought a wide range of experience in all aspects of fashion to the brand. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cspan\u003eOver the following three decades, Pipart's vision '\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003ecelebrated a flamboyant woman and his ready-to-wear found a loyal following among the most stylish women of the day.' \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThis is one of my favourite Nina Ricci pieces I have had in the shop. I have seen one other come up over the years but it did not have the matching belt, which I think is the perfect finish to the dress and is not the same without it.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe dress is made out of a feather light silk organza that feels like absolutely magic once on. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eI love the contrast in print that the different parts of the dress have. The top is a black silk organza with a pink dot print and then the skirt flips the colours around with a pink backdrop and a black chevron print running vertically over the entire skirt. The belt with its front bow finish brings in a third variation on this print with a pink base and black dot.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe top is cut very loose and easy with elastic through the shoulders so that it sits off the shoulder. You can also wear it on top of the shoulders if you wish but I love that bare expanse of skin when worn off. It skims loosely over the bodice to the waist and then you use the belt to for shape. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe sleeves are extremely full and and end just above the elbow. Each one has an inner lining of black chiffon that helps to hold the fullness.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe skirt is phenomenal. It is completely cut on the bias and there are many yards of silk organza used in its construction. There are two added layers of pink organza under the top layer and then a silk inner skirt under those three layers. The very top layer extends a bit past the inner layers to really play on the transparency of the organza. The movement the dress has once on is incredible.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli class=\"p2\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003eThe bodice and sleeves are fully lined in a black silk chiffon and the skirt is lined as described above. The neckline and sleeves have elastic and an inner waist stay hooks to close. It closes with a back zipper and the belt hooks to close. The inner elastic around the shoulders could be easily adjusted if you needed it tighter or looser on you. The dress has its original hang tag and a packet with extra fabric. Wedding dresses were not made for clients in any great quantities so the possibility is there that this is the only one that exists.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eIt would have been made completely by hand in the Paris atelier.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe bodice is fitted and the silk has been gathered on an angle that goes up towards the single shoulder. A soft silk ivory net creates a wide ruffle that follows the neck line. I almost hesitate to call it netting because it is more of an slightly open weave silk than a tulle. On the side with the sleeve that ruffle is a 8\" at its widest point and it narrows to 3\" on the other side that curves underneath the arm. Inside there is hidden boning to hold the dress in place around you. It nips in at the waist and then curves out to be very fitted across and over the hips.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe seam where the skirt is set into peaks on one side at the front and then angles down on the other. At the back it is set on more of a downward curve to emphasize and add an hourglass feel to your shape. Another ruffle of that same soft netted silk creates the first ruffle that following the seam around the hips. Layered under that is a doubled over panel of a dotted white silk netting. This is gathered and set all the way around you and adds volume to the ruffles set there.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eA fitted inner skirt is made of a raw ivory silk and this wraps around the hips and creates an inner mini skirt. Another ruffle made from the woven silk hides that inner miniskirt from view. The ruffle begins to widen out at the sides and then drops from there to to create the long trained skirt around you. The way that it is all gathered into the slanted seam around the hip is what creates the draping around you. It is long enough that it trails out behind you to create a train.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe single shoulder sleeve detail is of course what puts the dress over the top. The very top layer of it is the ruffle of the neckline and then there is a doubled over layer of the woven silk under that, This is followed by gathered layers of the white dotted tulle. A doubled over panel of ivory silk organza with inner layers of stiffening inside is next and then there are layers of the dotted tulle for the very innermost layer. Extra panels of the tulle and a light strip of padding sit around the very inner top of the shoulder to help give support and really lift that entire shoulder up and into the volume that you see.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThis is an absolute master class in Couture and is quintessentially Ungaro in every way. \u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eThe dress is fully lined in an ivory silk that is completely hand set. There is a hidden inner strap to help hold the shoulder in place and a light partial handmade padding that wraps around the top of the inner shoulder. An attached waist stay hooks to close and the dress closes at the side with a zipper. I see one teeny area near the hem of the front ruffle where the netting has some tiny breaks. There is so much fabric that you would never see this once on but it is mentioned for accuracy and I included a photo after the label shot. The woven silk does have some natural imperfections much like a raw silk would have but that is the nature of the fabric and not a flaw. It otherwise appears to have never been worn. The top is cut to skim over the bust with a scooped neckline at the front. It is seamed at the waist and then extends down over the top of the hips. There is an attached silk taffeta sash that wraps around the waist and cinches you in for added shape and detail at the waist. The sleeves are full with a beautiful sweeping cut that starts at the shoulders and remains full to just past the elbow. At that point the fabric changes to to a velvet. Four glossy dome buttons  detail the lower part of the sleeve. These are meant to be pushed up slightly to exaggerate that pouf of the upper sleeve even more. The skirt falls from under the velvet and it is beautifully full. The photos do not really do the amount of fabric in the skirt full justice. I love that under the top purple layer of silk there is a lining finished in a coral red silk taffeta. You don't see that inner layer when you are standing, but when you sit or move just right, you get that extra flash of color. It's a small detail that I am obsessed with. The fabric choices helps keep the intended shape and volume. Pieces by Yves from this time period have become an important piece of fashion history and having documentation like this one has makes it that much better.
