Rare 1960s Ossie Clark Cream Fortuny Pleat Plunge Dress

It is so hard to find an Ossie in a cream color that when I do it feels extra special. This makes a wonderful wedding dress for the more bohemian bride and works equally well as a dress to wear to a summer event because of the rich cream color. This particular style is often referred to as the "graduation" gown and mixes a flowing softness and the draping cut he was renowned for with a dash of sexiness. It's appeal lies in that fact that you just slip it on and the deep decolletage combined with the easy to adjust tie make it instantly flattering on just about any figure. The front plunges in a deep scooping cut to the empire waist. An attached tie wraps around and gives the gown and the wearer shape and keeps the plunge from moving about. The skirt flows from the front gathers under the neckline and then from the shoulders at the back. It cascades to the ground and is balanced by wide cut sleeves that have an incredible volume. This dress is unusual in that the fabric is not the standard moss crepe that is used later, but a lightweight, almost felt-like jersey fabric with a Fortuny like pleat running through it. I love the silk satin finish through the waist and collar that gives it a more evening feel. Excellent condition with a couple of tiny items to note below. Highly collectible.

Unlined and slips over the head to wear and has satin backed ties at the waist. Note that someone let the hem down to gain more length and there is a teeny bit of grubbiness along where the hem was. I have left it as the longer length works and I feel like it's fine to wear - you could put the hem back up or if you need less length hem it to just above and this would disappear altogether. There is one teeny pinhole at the front that gets lost in the fold once an and is stable and a small area of grubbiness under the arms and a couple areas on the front skirt. Priced accordingly. The size is variable because of the loose flowing cut and undefined seams. It is on a size 4ish mannequin but would also easily fit up to a size 8-10 and even larger is you are not too full through the shoulders and bust.

SIZE GUIDE

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
