1950s Sophie of Saks Silk Bow Dress
This is an amazing and very rare and early piece by Sophie Gimbel for Saks Fifth Avenue. Amazing and in excellent condition. She was the lead designer for Salone Moderne at Saks that was were woman shopped for couture and couture level RTW from the 30s- to the late 50s. She also designed a line for the shop and was renowned for her use of expensive fabrics. Her pieces are very very collectible now and this is an exceptional dress that is also a great and wearable size. The construction and fabric is exquisite! Light as air silk chiffon is layered over silk lining. The skirt is fairly lean and cut straight with beautiful floating chiffon panels on either hip and around the back. The bodice drapes and has a looser layer of silk chiffon over the interior dress. The top layer is gathered at the shoulders and covered a nude illusion design at the top of the bodice and shoulders. There little black bows are hand stitched into place onto nude netting and trail deep down the back as well! So pretty and so wonderful! Excellent condition.
