Jean Louis, a Hollywood costume designer who created legendary looks for some of the most iconic women on the silver screen: Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth, Vivien Leigh, & most famously, Marilyn Monroe. Who could forget the sheer, sparkling gown she wore when serenading the President with her breathy rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’? He really played on the illusion of the wearer appearing nude, while embellishing the discrete areas with beautifully shimmering rhinestones. (Yes, Millennial’s – this occurred in the pre-Kardashian area!)
What I loved about this week’s look is that feeling of old Hollywood that Jean Louis perfected. The drama of the off the shoulder cut & nipped waist, really make this a stand out piece. I absolutely love when the light hits the black & white polka dot pattern; it becomes almost metallic & luminescent- which you can notice in the photographs.
What keeps it fashion-forward & youthful for me, & again – chimes back to Jean Louis’ aesthetic, is the sheer netting over the nude silk interior. It’s soft & pretty- but also has this real sexiness to it.
Definitely a favourite!
