Esme, in a 1970s Turquoise Gown from Shrimpton Couture, and Orlando von Einsiedel.
Way back in 2015 Esme contacted me to ask about a gown to wear to the Oscars. Her partner, Orlando von Einsiedel, was nominated for his work as the director (and writer) on the film Virunga. This year Orlando was nominated again and Esme let me know that she planned on wearing the same dress. She loved it so much that she thought it deserved a second time down the red carpet. Now I know they say third time's the charm but I think that the magic of vintage must have helped a little in this case because that night I received an email from Esme with two words: We WON.
Orlando and Producer, Joanna Natasegara, won the 2017 Oscar award for Documentary (Short Subject) for the film White Helmuts. White Helmuts is a documentary film about the Volunteer rescue workers that put their lives on the line to save civilians amidst the turmoil and violence in Syria and Turkey. You can find out more about the White Helmuts organization and donate to their cause here and also the link to the Netflix film is here if you have not yet seen it. I have also included the trailer at the very bottom of this post for you.
What a thrill to be even the smallest of parts at the Oscars. Esme, you look absolutely beautiful and I hope to dress you for many many more Oscar appearances to come!
