Galanos, famed for dressing the influential and the socially prominent - maintained a sense of privilege throughout his career. Opting out of the Fashion shows & mass market licensing deals, Galanos designed strictly for a devout group of elites. Harold Koda, a former curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute described Galanos of having a sense of privilege around his clothes. "A Galanos projected knockout glamour, absolute luxury, but the lightness of his handiwork prevented the clothes from ever looking like costume.”
This incredible 1970s metallic thread dress perfectly exhibits that. Masterfully crafted, the cut is subtly sexy, but paired with the lame details - this gown packs intensity. Style simply, this piece is Galanos at his very best!
