The Oscars are such an exciting time of the year - it's really the ultimate dress porn opportunity of the year as we all watch to see who wears what and if they pull it off. I am blessed to have had a couple of dresses walk the red carpet in past years (see Holly here and Esme here) and this year we had some vintage attend the big event once again.
When it comes to having an actress choose a dress for the big night it's a little different than when one of us 'regular girls' prep for the event. For example when Esme and Holly went through the process of finding their dresses, we knew from when both girls first emailed what the dress was for and the look they wanted. Once they each found the right dress I knew to watch for it on screen. For someone like Michelle Monaghan (who has worn SC Vintage before in Rhapsody Magazine - click here to see that!), her stylist, the amazing Karla Welch, is pulling looks from all over the world. Because Karla has a stable of clients (besides Michelle she also dresses Olivia Wilde and Karlie Kloss amongst others), you have no real idea of who she is looking to dress when she selects the pieces you send off. That means that even I did not know who would end up in anything, if even at all, and that I found out along with everyone else that it was that amazing silk net Bill Blass sixties number that I pulled from my archives that Michelle wore.
When I saw that Michelle had gone with the Blass I literally screamed. It's a heady experience after watching stars walk the carpet since I was a little girl to see something from your brand actually be there. That it was vintage, and a damn gorgeous piece of vintage too, just made it even better.
It was as magical a night for me and my team here as it was for everyone in LA. Michelle looked perfect and I hope next year I can have a hand in bringing a little bit of vintage to the Oscars once again.
P.S. Since Michelle went with Bill Blass I thought it fitting to do my weekly designer column on Bill Blass this week. I have had serious internet issues - our local tower that our signal originates from was damaged in the storm we had on the weekend. I have had no true wireless since Saturday and am hobbling along on an iPad and cell phone signal. My weekly column normally comes out on Thursday - this week it will be skipped and come back for its regular appearance next Thursday. Apologies for the delay. It's also affecting new listings but keep an eye out as we should be fixed up soon.
