I am sort of nutty over Diana Ross. She can't take a bad photo - even now at 70. When you look back at her photos spanning the many decades of her long career, it is shocking how amazingly fresh and modern she looks no matter how far back you go. She changed her hair on a whim long before Rihanna and wore wild get ups before Lady Gaga was even an idea in her parent's heads.
She had a reputation for being a diva bitch and it only added to her allure. Plus she always delivered. Always. Case in point - the 1983 free concert given in Central Park where proceeds of the concert would be donated to build a playground in her name. Midway through the start of the show, a torrential downpour occurred. She performed until she couldn't, with her crew standing by in fear that she was going to be electrocuted at any moment. And she looked fucking amazing doing it. That is Diana Ross.
As a member of the Supreme's, a solo artist, actress and an infallible woman of style, her career would take an entire book to properly cover. Suffice to say that she is one of my absolute favorite style icons. Please enjoy this photographic romp through her ever so beautiful life.
Happy birthday Diana and may you grace the world with many more to come
