1971 Rare Malcolm Starr Caspian Sea Set

You do find these amazing Malcolm Starr skirts once in a while if you are lucky, but it is very rare to find the entire set! In 1971, Malcolm Starr was headed by Egyptian designer Rizkallah. He designed two of the most memorable collections that have become cult favorites - the Circus theme and the Caspian Sea theme. This set is from the Caspian Sea collection! The collection was based around bold paisleys and the "soft, swinging dresses of the European influence". The skirt has an exotic feel and is embellished with gold braid and gold covered plastic strips. Paisley and black velvet are used to make the design and are striking against the off-white backdrop. I love the bold pop of tangerine as well! The top is simple with a high ruffled neck and cuffs. It is a semi-sheer black chiffon and the lightness of the fabric is the perfect contrast to the bold skirt. Very chic and in excellent condition.

The skirt is fully lined in a white silky rayon and closes with a hidden set zipper and three large flat hook & eye at the waist.Very slight wear the gold on the skirt there and there but this is natural patina from age and should not be considered a flaw.
