1970s Beaded Bob Mackie Silk Jersey Gown

A killer gown by Bob Mackie who is best known for dressing Cher and for his love of opulence and bead work! He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis and I think he secretly always designed for the big screen and the bygone glamor of Hollywood. His work always is over the top and extravagant. This is an amazing silk jersey gown in a sleek and simple black that is cut to create height and curves. It would not be a Bob Mackie without some glitz though and the neckline and shoulder straps give it that in spades! Beads and rhinestones are heavily applied to completely cover each strap that curves over the shoulder. The bead work continues around and down through the curve of the low set back and then down the front to the waist on the front. Attached to those heavily beaded areas are dangling bits of beads and silver balls. The bodice and shoulders are very structured and molded inside so you are fully supported. It feels like couture on! Extremely well made and in excellent condition

Fully lined through the bodice in silk that is completely hand set, with a built in corset type foundation and is boned and slightly molded in shape. It closes with a back painted, hand set zipper. Hand finished throughout. The skirt is left unlined and the fabric is opaque enough that this works.
