1970s Beaded Bob Mackie Gown

This is a stunning and rare gown designed by Bob Mackie who is best known for dressing Cher and for his love of opulence and bead work! He worked for both Edith Head and Jean Louis and I think he secretly always designed for the big screen and the bygone glamor of Hollywood. His work always is over the top and extravagant. This is an amazing silk gown that is extremely sexy and flattering. The base is a striped silk that has bands of a deep teal and black that run vertically over the gown. Every edge where the two colors meet has a row of green glass tube beads that give the gown an extra layer of texture and sparkle. The dress is incredibly heavy and yet when on it is balanced and not unwieldy. I love the drama of the peaked bust line and the way an extra twist of fabric flows from the knot at the front middle. It is dramatic, over the top and quite fabulous. Extremely well made and in excellent condition.

Fully lined in black silk crepe with a built in bra through the bodice that is boned. There is also an inner waist stay. It closes with a back painted zipper. Hand finished throughout. Incredibly heavy as it is fully beaded top to bottom with glass beads but feels balanced when on and comfortable. There is the occasional bead missing but 99% are present.

Bust: 16.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 12-12.5" flat across from side seam to side seam of the built in corset
Hips: to 20" flat across from side seam to side seam
Length: 55" from peak of bodice to hem
