1960s Lace Overlay Sara Fredericks Sculptural Silk Dress

Sara Fredericks was actually tha name of the woman behind a string of high retail shops in the USA that carried exclusive designers. The shops carried Trigere, Geoffrey Beene, James Galanos, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta, Bob Mackie and Hubert de Givenchy. She also carried the clothes of Chanel and Chloe. You often see pieces with this label attributed to her but it is actually her shop label and like this dress the original designer label was removed or lost. It is certainly a designer piece - the construction and line tell that story instantly.

The dress is extraordinarily beautiful. It is constructed of beautiful, heavy weight yellow silk and over that inner base, it is entirely covered  in a cord lace that sits on top of the inner dress and is only attached along the edges and here and there in the design so it floats over the inner dress. The bodice has a simple cut with a scooped neck and no sleeve. It is all hand finished and the workmanship is amazing. It is meticulously done and of very high end construction. The skirt is long and and widens as it nears the hem. The shape is kept through inner tulle underskirts that keep the volume desired. The gown is a superb example of high end couture workmanship and I am sure that one day the new owner will find an email from me with some long lost photo that I have found confirming the designer. Excellent condition

The bodice is lined in pale yellow tissue silk and the skirt has a layer of tulle that sits between the inner silk lining and the yellow silk of the exterior. The lace is hand applied and tacked so it overlaps in places. It closes with a back painted metal zipper. and the lace snaps into place over this in a pattern following the lace design so the zipper is completely hidden from view.  All hand finished.
