1960s George Halley Silk Tunic and Pant Suit

Halley started at Charles James who said of the young designer that he "was a genius at draping". By the time he opened his own atelier in 1966 he was in full form and was a master cutter as well. His work is on par with couture and each piece is hand finished and has all the lovely high end details one looks for in proper couture. He is without doubt one of my favorites and I treasure each piece I can acquire. This particular set is divine. I love that it is two pieces as you can break it up and wear them separate or as the suit as intended. I feel that Halley designs always start with the fabric and this fabric is amazing. It is a rich, heavy silk in a stunning yellow. Onto this is screened a floral print and each blossom and leaf is made of a grey outline and check. The larger portions of the design have an additional layer of silk velvet fused over the pattern, giving the fabric an extra layer of depth and texture. The pants are flat fronted and have a cropped skinny cigarette leg adding height to the wearer instantly. The tunic sits over the pants and feel almost like a properly made mini. It has a high neck, perfectly formed bodice and sleeves and cinched waist. Panels of fabric sit at the front and back, skirting the tunic and creating the perfect balance and proportion over the skinny pant. I love the wide sleeves - they are the perfect finish to the ensemble. Excellent condition

Both pieces are fully lined in cream silk. The tunic closes with a back painted metal zipper and the pants close with a zipper and hook & eye at the waist. There is elastic that runs through the waist band of the pants for an easy fit. Hand finished throughout and weights in the inner hem of the tunic and bottom of each pant leg. At some point the pants were let out for extra room - the inner lining was left open but stitched in place to accommodate and you can see a faint line of stitches on the exterior of the pant (please super-size the photo taken of this area)

SIZE GUIDE

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
