1971 Couture Runway Halston Jersey Dress & Coat

An amazing and extremely rare set from Halston that is from the 1971 collection. Both pieces are done in a stunning purple silk jersey. The dress is made of a double layer of this fabric and the evening coat a single layer. One of Halston's signatures was how to construct pieces with the absolute minimal seaming and this is a stunning example of how he executed that ideal. The simplicity of the pieces do not disguise the absolute genius behind them. The dress hooks behind the neck and then falls to the floor in a a draped column of jersey that gradually widens as it nears the hem. The back dips dangerously low and the fabric clings as is skims over the body. It is extremely sexy, as it was meant to be! The matching evening cape is an dramatic and extravagant feast for the eye! It is cut to train far past the hem of the gown. It has a single hook & eye at the neck and then cascades ot the ground. The fabric was all cut form a single bolt and there are no seams through the body of the coat until you near the hem and then a rounded finish piece is added to create the edging. The sleeves are kept slim to balance all that beautiful fabric. This is a rare opportunity to have one of the most dramatic pieces of Halston I have ever seen! Museum worthy.

The gown is a double layer of the same fabric and the evening coat a single layer. The dress has a single hook & eye at the back of the neck and the coat a single hook & eye at the neck. There is fading across the top of the shoulders - it would be possible to recut this slightly to eliminate this but its been left entirely original. One tiny stitch repair on one sleeve of the coat. None of these detract due to the rarity of this set and it is priced accordingly.
