1960s Couturier Jacques H. Reval Studded Halter Dress

This is a wonderful and unusual little summer dress by Parisian couturier Jacques Reval who operated a small atelier during the 60s in Paris. From what I have been able to gather he produced holiday wear for the jet-set and evening wear mainly, and loved to add embellishment and unusual applique or sequins to his work. This is a wonderful and very unusual dress that takes full advantage of the "mod" movement of the day. It is made from a splashy citrus floral mix on a linen cotton mix all done in happy yellow and green hues. The skirt sits high up on the wiast and is a slim A-line. The top is cut almost like a bathing suit tap and the skirt is supended form it by three bands og grosgrain ribbon that also adorn the waist and lower bust. This leaves the entire upper waist bare all the way around and is really spectacular. At the back there is an extra band of fabric that snaps into place across the back that you can wear or leave off - it works either way. He them finished the bodice with a heavy applique of gold studs. It's crazy but it works! It looks to be entirely hand done inside so I would consider this to be demi-couture since he was not actually a Chambre member so it cannot be defined as true Haute Couture. It is in excellent condition but please read the notes below regarding fit.

Fully lined in a hand set yellow silk and closes at the low back with a painted metal zipper. The back strap snaps into place and can be removed entirely. Note that unless you are short waisted you may find that the bodice sits fairly high - I have included more measurements then usual for the upper bodice so you can get an idea of how it would fit on you. If that is the case it would be possible to extend the shoulders using the removable strap at the back for the fabric needed. I have priced this with potential alterations required in mind. If you fit it bang on then you get it for a steal

SIZE GUIDE

Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
