c1977 Brilliant Emanuel Ungaro Haute Couture Skirt & Top
This set feels so perfectly fresh again and it has the added benefit of being a very rare and important 1977 Haute Couture Emanuel Ungaro set. Brilliant primary colors are mixed masterfully to create the ultimate couture bohemian folk feel. Both pieces are constructed of beautiful, high quality silks that have subtly different weights so that the top drapes and flows while the skirt has slightly more shape and holds its volume. The finishes on the silk also are different and help to define the design - the top has a subtle angled floral design woven into the silk and the skirt has dots. The top is a loose gypsy style with full, billowing sleeves that button at each cuff. The front keyhole is edged and highlighted with gold cord and inset bands of silk. The skirt is a masterpiece with a tightly banded waist and long attached silk ties in a bright yellow - these ties are set extra long and can be wrapped around the waist several timer or tied and allowed to flow down the side or back. The attached front panel of fabric has a beautiful screening of what I believe to be a a Paul Gauguin, or Gauguin inspired, print. The contrast of the vibrant jeweled colors and that wonderful addition of art on the front panel are beautiful. Plus you have the added versatility of the pieces being separates so can mix and match with other items in your closet. Excellent condiiton with one small item to note below.
The skirt is backed in a white, fine silk organza and closes at the waist with a zipper and flat hook and eye at the waist. The top is unlined and slips over the head. Both pieces are beautifully finished inside. The top is labeled and the skirt has the interior cross stitch that HC pieces of this time period have. There is an area of very slight fading discoloration on the back of the skirt. Because of the volume and the way the tie runs down the back it is not apparent when on but can be seen when the skirt is laid out flat and open. Priced accordingly
