Nini Nguyen is not hard to make look beautiful under any circumstance, but even she was floored by this look that Ricky created. She had not really tried a dark lip before this shoot and loved how it came out! So we asked Ricky, the talented make-up artist behind RickyMakeup, who created this look and did her hair for this shoot, to give us the behind the scenes scoop on how he achieved the look!

"Nini trusted me completely as there was no makeup mirrors where got her hair and makeup ready - just one small mirror at the actual location so she could not see anything until it was time to actually shoot! We decided to keep the makeup fresh and sheer but with a high impact feel.

First, I primed her skin with the Smashbox photo ready primer. Next I used Smashbox HD Foundation in 2.1 and applied it all over the face. Smashbox concealer in fair/light was applied as a highlighter under her eyes, forehead and chin and blended into skin and was followed by Smashbox Halo Powder to set the face.

For the eyes I used an Inglot shimmer eyeshadow in a wine/rose color (called Shine39) and applied to lid and into crease. A champagne Smashbox Shimmer Powder was applied on her brow bone and inner corner of her eyes. Lashes were curled and we amped them up even more with a wispy pair of false eyelashes (Nini brought her favorites - Wispy by MAC - to the set). Two coats of mascara were applied to both the top and bottom lashes. Brows were then filled in with a medium brown pencil for more definition. I contoured her temples, under her cheekbone and jawline. I applied a light rosy pink  blush and went with a Bordeaux lip color for fall that we custom mixed from two MAC shades - a mix of Pucker and a little bit of Cyber.

She had a very clear idea for hair and she chose the high ponytail braid. I simply executed. She got up went to a mirror and loved it! We didn't change a thing and she went straight to wardrobe and slipped on that amazing vintage Thea Porter caftan and was ready to shoot!

It was great working with her. She is such a professional and such a fashionista! As an artist herself, she completely trusted me and my artistry and let me get right to work. Everything flowed perfectly and she looked absolutely beautiful in every shot.

Bottom line - the make-up was simple, but with HIGH IMPACT" - Ricky
